Was looking great until I saw the wing.
It also has seats from a '73

Agreed, the spoiler looks terrible. Other than that, it is a nice car. It has a chrome mirror just like a black car should have, so it likely is an original black car like he claims.

What do you guys think of the price on that car? Is that about right for a Q-Code with a 351 CJ? It looks pretty nice, but I don't know where to value it. Curious what you guys think.

If it’s a real black on black numbers matching 4 speed it’s worth alot...... all depending on condition. This car obviously needs some work. Buckets are wrong. Wing needs to go and I’m sure there’s other things. But again the car is a great car and I would love to have it if I didn’t already have three haha

Are the seats wrong or just the upholstery?

The upholstery.
I would ask to see the Marti report to confirm the car is what is claimed.

The seats are wrong too. Well at least they are missing something.  72 seats have a hard molded plastic insert on the rear of the front seats. 73 DO NOT have theis insert.

if you seriously wanted one of these cars and this car is solid and in great shape, i sure wouldn't let a wing or the wrong seats deter me from the car. I also wouldn't expect to use the wing and wrong seats as some sort of bargainin tool against the seller. These cars rust horribly, i care more about the overall solidness of the car vs what seats, codes, etc it comes with. it has a 4 spd, 351cj in it now, could care less what it came with originally if all was converted properly.
Past 1974 Ranchero GT Q code

Present 1973 Q code formal roof base model Torino with ralleye equpiment package and 4spd.

Mr. Smog is on the money. The wrong seats or wing wouldn't deter me either, if the car is a solid original rust free car.  It'd be nice to see the Marti on this one.

I looked at the pictures again and it doesn't show the seat backs.  It is possible that the '72 seats were reupholstered without the comfort weave inserts.  FWIW, the '72 and '73 seats look basically identical other than the comfort weave inserts and the plastic backs on the buckets.  Only guys like us would notice it's not correct.

Does anyone know if late build 1972 cars got 1973 style seats?  You know how Ford is with running changes...

Here's a pic of a correct 1972 interior:

I agree.  I think the Marti report is what is needed on such an unusual car.  As we all know, black was special order paint and with a factory four speed manual, factory black car, I'd say the price is close to being about right as it sits assuming there is no evil rust lurking. Wink Paul~

Looks to be very nice-wish I had a console/buckets and a four speed. I would dump the spoiler and repaint right away.

Here are the interior trim codes (on door tag).  This will confirm if the car was originally a bucket seat car or not, since it appears to have incorrect seats.

Here is the info on VIN decoding:

Door Tag Decoding:

If the guy has a Marti, this would be even better to determine how correct the car is.  If he doesn't have one, it might be worthwhile to get the VIN and pay for one before committing to the car.  The turn around time is pretty quick.

I get dumping the spoiler, but why would you repaint? If it's original black on black and the paint appears to be in good shape, why repaint? Just curious if you see something I don't in the pics.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant repaint the whole car. That trunk issue would be an easy patch and match.

After all that I just found out that the guy sold it out from under me after already agreeing to a deal. Anyhow, I'm still looking for a 72 fastback if anyone has one they want to sell.

these are the original seats, the code is the same as early cars, MA,ford master catalog lists this as late, car was built late june 72.yes, the spoiler sucks, got a new deck lid. no rust, orig paint on 95 % of car, yes I have the marti, sorry j hutch, we were at the bank when you called. I bought the car because everyone around where I cruze knew him and the car and I knew him from his other vehicle he had, a 72 ranchero gt that used to be our parts truck (we were a ford dealer) another fact I think, was that the special order black cars got brown primer/sealer underneath. maybe just the Atlanta plant? car was in texas the moved here (seattle area) the carpet is mint, the shot you see is a wadded up old chunk of carpet to keep rug clean.driver seat has "levi rivet" marks on the corner. AND THE SPOILER GOES!!! phred
