Well, that's partly right...the 460 found its way into Ford cars and trucks in '74 (MIGHT be '73 for the trucks...I'm not sure).  But the 460 started life in '68 in the Lincoln Mark III and possibly the big Lincoln, too.

The 460 was also used in fords 1973 only as a 460 pi package. If you find one it is a good start for a performace engine.

73 was the last year of the 429, so 74's had the 460 A code and the C code was for law inforcement only, Interceptor460, I have got a 460 with about 4thousand miles on it. and I am toying with the idea of putting a mild, or cj type cam in it,and replacing the intake so as to get a bigger carb ( it's smaller than my 351)  the car has all the right options , locking 3.25 rear auto buckets ect.. but the 215  a code is just a little to numb. If you had this car as a platform, what would you do to the engine , to bring it up to speed , short of pulling it out of the car? Keep in mind that I want the car to look stock and would only want availible at the time  c code  or cj options ?

To make a stock  460 run cooler can I just run a 180 degree  thermo  , ( some guys add electric fans) ,  then add extra oil, and an oil cooler?  the water is top end and the oil is bottom end, for engine protection right?  they make a lower temp thermo than 180?

On my 460 I had a stainsteel flex fan rated to 8000rpm and a 4 coe rad with 160 degree thermostat. The fist time I ran a electric fan was on my 68 ltd with 428 in her ,the only reason I did not run a electric  fan on the 460 . Was the early models ( electric fans ) drain alot power.

The correction 4 core rad and the early electric fans needed alot of amprage . They tended to drain down the battery.
