Topic: 4bbl swap questions Posted: 24-September-2007 at 8:16AM |
Alright fellas I am swapping the 351W that is in my car from 2bbl to 4bbl. I know the car originally had a 351w 2bbl. Am I going to need to get a different throttle linkage and kick down for the car. I am sure I will need to but any suggestions where I should get one. BTW the car is a 78' Cougar XR7.
Thanks,
Dan
P.S. I am still working on getting pics yo.

Well, that would depend mostly on the intake you plan on getting. If the carb pad is at stock height, or a little higher, you shouldn't have any problems using your current throttle cable and kickdown. However, if you're planning a hi-rise intake (which you really don't need if you plan on leaving the rest of the engine stock, or close to it), you'll likely need a new throttle cable, and plan on changing your kickdown rod to a cable as well.
I modified a kickdown rod when I put a Weiand Stealth intake on my 460, and while it seems to work well enough, it ain't pretty. Someday I plan on replacing it with a cable. Lokar is the name of choice when it comes to aftermarket cables...first place I would call is Summit Racing, but lots of performance-related places should be able to help.

If you get a performer intake and edelbrock carb, most likely no, it'll be fine. The kickdown rod is easy enough to modify.

I am going to use a stock cast iron intake manifold so I guess everything should work out ok. However I do plan on going to a weiand stealth a little later down the road. Thanks guys I appreciate the info.

A stealth is a little too high end for a stock 351W, IMO.

Ah cool, Thanks. I finally took it out last night a little bit after parking it for 4 months... got rid of detonation I was having etc. I won't say I "fear" the car.. more like "respect" the car. farther I press the gas, the harder the car pulls.. I still haven't REALLY tried a WOT run, nor have I just stuff it from a standstill. I think that will just result in a bunch of tire smoke. LOL
