And so it begins...

1971 F100 long bed with a 351W 2V and FMX auto from I believe a 74 Gran Torino.  It has no rust and came here a couple of years ago from Las Vegas. Cab corners, under the bed, no where is there rust. In my initial investigation, I ran my compression gauge through the engine.  The compresion read as follows: cylinder #1=115lbs, #2=120lbs, #3=115lbs, #4=100lbs, #5=110lbs, #6=115lbs, #7=120lbs, #8=105lbs.  I guess this means I'm looking at new rings, bearings, gasket overhaul...

I'm still deciding on upgrades/color/wheels...

I want to keep the F-O-R-D letters for the (1967 version) of the hood, but I am shaving the F100 side hood emblems and the "Custom" lettering from the rear bed side. I will go back with the small chrome mirrors, and I originally was leaning towards painting it Black Ivy and torque thrust wheels and recreating a "Bullit Truck" in the Steve McQueen fashion.  I also am thinking a vibrant blue. Who knows, but I have started the process at least. Many more pics to come.

It may actually have sunk valves and not need rings.

It does smoke some (more out of right side, and usually upon startup and getting on it) and I have to add oil to keep the level up.  This is why I stuck the compression guage on it to get a baseline, I suspected something was wrong.

That will make a fine project. It is always better to start with good bones, and that one looks very solid.

Are you intending on keeping the same basic look with just some subtle mods or going whole-hog custom? Custom as in replacing the long bed with a shortie, stretching the cab out to make an extended cab version? These are very versatile vehicles that look awesome modified.

I wish mine was that nice when I started. Looks real solid. Great start! I may have a few parts leftover if you are interested.
Vibrant blue with a coyote under the hood!

This was at the cruise nigh down in Tennessee thye Friday of Memorial weekend.  At the mall in Murfreesboro.  Instead of just doing the crown vic front cradle swap, gut gutted and stripped an 03 CV P71 and set the Pickup body on it.  Just had ot fab body mounts. Wheel base is spot on without having TO section the frame of the CV. He used the CV dash so it was pretty much plug n play. He'll be making a cover for the suspension/fuel tank in the box and then rhino lining it and putting it to use.  This was THE coolest thing there, couldnt stop thinking about it.  Lol.  And there were some REALLY nice rides there.

That is pretty cool. I'd be lying if I said that project had not crossed my mind in the past. I always figured it would be a ton of work.

Doing some preliminary thinking and this is the theme I am leaning towards for the interior. I like the brown and dk gray together. Bucket seats, create a console, keeping the original F100 dash. (This is out of a new F150 Platinum)

...or

Pearl Gold: (although this is a waterborne paint)

or maybe Tunnel Ram Metallic:

or maybe the Tunnel Ram color is what I use on the dashboard and interior...

Thoughts?
