I have a 20 gallons cell in the car already. The original tank was too far gone to fix. I might get one from a 74 if I have too but as i’m In no rush, i’m Sure I locate a good donor.

We did the '78 Cougar tank and filler neck swap on my '72 and installed the side fill cap. Best modification hands-down ever on one of these.

i had to get a tank for leela last year, hers had rusted through on the top... spectra is making them again.  google spectra gas tank for 72-73 torino...  shop around because they are priced differently

Yes it sticks out like the 74 and up tank. The 74 through 76 tanks are 26 gallon tanks, and the 77 through 79 tanks are 21 gallon tanks. But they stick out at the rear under the bumper, like the 74 to 76 tanks. The 72 and 73 tanks are 22.5 gallon tanks.

My 1975 Gran Torino had a 36.5 gallon tank from the previous owner. I bought that one in 1979 off of a used car lot. I almost had an anurism the 1st time it was filled from empty. I just thought it was getting great gas mileage. Thats when I discovered that a 460 interceptor only got about 6mpg on a good day.
