So my choke stove tube has rusted apart, and now my choke is unhappy which means I'm unhappy. :-(

My options:
  • Try and fix it. Not my idea of a good time.
  • Pick up a used one via ebay (there's one there now that won't ship to Canada, grr.)
  • Grab a Dorman 55111 generic choke stove kit and see what trouble I can get in
  • Electric choke! a CV382, from what google says, might work. It's from a 78 Fairmont with a Motocraft 2100 on top of a 302.
  • Throw caution to the wind, get an Edelbrock Performer intake and carb (which has an electric choke already.)
Question time -
  • Any other options or solutions I'm not thinking of?
  • Electric chokes - anyone done the conversion? What did you use, how does it work?
  • Is the performer intake and carb upgrade worth the ~$800 US for parts?
    • will it fit under the hood?
    • can you re-use the same air cleaner?
    • did your tires wear out faster? Tongue
Looking forward to hearing people's thoughts.

Edelbrock
-Will fit under the hood.
-Cannot use same air cleaner.
-Of course your tires will wear out faster.

Do you have a picture of it? Is it similar to the 4V choke stove assembly?

I'm running an Edelbrock on the engine I just fired Monday and I believe I have the choke stove assemble sitting in a box, on a shelf, next to the car.

I managed to find a manual choke today, of all things!  My panic to find a solution is... soothed. Clap The last car with a manual choke I drove was my mother's 1985 Honda wagon with the 3-speed Hondamatic transmission. That goes back a ways...

The part that rusted out looks like this:

Given that the Edelbrock intake / carb fits under the hood, I think that's the direction I'm going to go longer term.

What kind of air cleaner housing fits on top of the Edelbrock carb? Different filters, too?

Is it just the tubes that rusted out? they press in and can be made from steel brake/fuel type tubing.

I think I still have the original from my car, came off a 70 mustang with 351c 2v. I sand blasted it but never used it. Let me know if you are interested and I'll dig. Just cover shipping and it's yours.
