yeah, if joe has an original to trace that might be better, i had nothing! so mine may still need some revamping as i haven't fit it with the seat or sail panels yet

it's 1/8" luan, luan is basically a close relative of mahogany. most people would refer to it as interior door skin (house doors) it's really only good for flat panels, i prefer to use it for flat panels vs hardboard as it don't warp (from moisture) like the hardboard can, my upholstery guy will argue with me about it as he prefers to use the hardboard, it's cheaper and easier for him to work with.

my upholstery guy only had enough black vinyl left to do the rear panels, he's getting another roll in on monday, i really wanted the larger piece to cover the package tray so i could finish that and install the 6 x 9's Angry but the good news is that piece to do both panels was only $10 Thumbs Up

John, I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics for the materials.
Marine grade vinyl on the rolls, available in colors and will be easy to repair/match in the future.

This is how I did mine.
I used a material that was thin enough not to restrict sound quality.. I want to keep a clean look of the package tray.

here was mine from back in July...

Did my package/speaker tray tonight...

Clearing more stuff out of the garage I have been collecting over the years!! The old Speaker/Package tray fell apart in pieces crumbling as I handled it. Made it like a puzzle to trace the pattern on 1/4" MDF board. 6x9 speaker holes cut using the supplied template. Cut the White Marine vinyl, sprayed with the adhesive and pulled/wrapped it tight. Installed along with the speakers. Came out decent for a 1st time doing it!! MORE FIRSTS!!

worked on the drivers side rear panel tonight, after removing the old vinyl and hardboard, i methodically bent the "riveted " prongs back straight:

then after marking and drilling the holes (5/16) in the new luan panel, i painstakingly bent each of the 4 tabs (per hole--about 20 holes) towards the panel to act as a rivet:
then after all tabs were bent, i gave each hole a firm whack with a hammer to firmly tighten the two parts together:

WOW JOHN, those are looking great!

Keep it up my friend!

BTW... I got my package tray traced out yesterday and will take it to work and scan it into the computer so I can clean some of the jagged lines up a bit and have it ready for when it comes time to do mine.

FWIW, my OEM tray had a piece of open mesh (screen-type) material glued to the underside of the tray followed by a layer of jute THAT WAS NOT CUT OUT IN THE SPEAKER AREAS. My car came with a single speaker AM radio so it never was an issue, but I wonder how that jute between the speaker and tray would have effected the sound??

i'm sure it would really "muffle" it, a thin layer of just fabric may be ok, but the jute insulation should cut down the sound quite a bit

i've been needing to get the side windows tinted so i can put all the panels, trim, etc. on , they need the panels off to have room to do it, but they aren't open on saturdays Angry and they're closed all days of these holidays, but as luck would have it,... i just happen to have tomorrow off, too( 5 days offShocked) so 9:00am tomorrow road trip!!! and hoodless! if it's raining i may have to remove the air filter (paper filter and rain--not the best of friends)
