OK guys, getting ready to remove the rear suspension and was wondering what the easiest way to drop it as an assembly is. I kinda glanced at it the last time I had a play day and I'm thinking;

support axle on floor jack,
remove shocks at the rear end,
unhook axle vent tube,
pull the hardware from the control arm chassis mounts,
insure brake lines and parking brake cables are free

and the assembly should drop out in one piece. Did I overlook anything?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ADVICE FROM THOSE WHO HAVE DONE THIS

I do it regularly, lol.

Jack the car up as high as safely possible and support with stands - this gives you room to slide it out. Unbolt driveshaft.

1) Unhook brake cables first
2) Unhook brake lines/vent tube
3) Support rear and remove lower shock mounts
4) Unbolt all 4 trailing arms from the frame
5) Install 1 lugnut on each axle to keep drums from falling off - finger tight
6) lower jack with assembly resting on it (be sure to catch the springs as they fall out) and slide the whole unit out with the jack

Joe,

I made a "knee wall" support for the rear of the frame...

which holds the car about 24" above the ground. That should be enough to drop the rear suspension and sandblast the underside of the body shouldn't it?

Thanks for the "TO DO LIST"!

As long as you can slide it past them, it should work fine. Looks good!

There will be some jackstands under that if you're going under it...???
I would be worried about the car shifting forward or back and splitting the nails out of the wood.

The front of the chassis is supported by two, 6 ton, 24" tall jackstands and the knee wall at the rear. The car sits level and there are at least three (3) 3.5" long drywall screws from each direction at each joint on the rear stand, so unless there is an earthquake here in the Ohio Valley, I doubt the car will be going anywhere.

I even tried to shake the car off the stand while the front tires were still sitting on the ramps and it did not move any at all, so I fell pretty confident slipping under her.
