So my Torino has a fuel cell in it but I have the original tank also, that I plan on putting back in. All the lines are there under the car so it's no problem to just switch everything back over. But the vent line runs up to the engine compartment and I imagine it ran to a charcoal filter of sorts. So, can I just bypass all of that and find a vented gas cap?

Ok here we are 2 years later and no one has still answered this question. Can I block off the vent line and use a vented gas cap?

I have done that myself, I believe that my original cap is marked vented. I've only got about 50 miles on it. but no problems as of yet. what year is your car?

my car was missing the charcoal filter, the rubber hose was still connected to the hard line on the frame up near the front of the engine so i just tucked the end of the rubber hose inside a nearby hole in the frame there, so i can vent and is protected from any open spark...looks fine works fine Wink

I removed the charcoal filter on mine, cut the rubber pipe at the back end of the tank and used a little breather from Summit. $4 I think, just fits right into the old hose and then use a clamp to make sure it wont escape

The reason I ask is because I get a strong gas odor in the car and there is not a fuel leak any where in the line. I checked the carb and it doesnt seem to be building up there either. But the vent line from the tank has a rubber hose that is just hanging there I believe thats the culprit.

This is what I used

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/mqr-bv-1blk/overview/

Comes with some pipe to fit onto the tank vent pipe but I found it fitted right into the rubber pipe anyway so just used that with a hose clip

Yes you can use a vented cap and block the vent.
(Unless the EPA is reading this, in which case... That is WRONG!)Big smile

in my 72 Ranchero I used a small fuel filter as a 'spider stop' in the line off the top vent, ran it up over the frame then let it hang down to vent to atmosphere
it's possible that the fumes may eddy under the car & you'll smell fuel if the end of the hose is not in a good place

What I ended up doing was using a vented gas cap, Hooking the vent line back up and then routing the hose into the front drivers side wheel well. Took care of it. Plus, my Holley 600 cfm carb was on its way out so I bought another one and installed. No gas smell, runs a million times better way more power and torque.
Next question: I have the stock 4 leaf springs on but I remember when I was kid people used to add leafs from junk yards to give their rear a 1-2 inch lift. I have 275's on my rear and would like to lift it a little but dont want to spend 500.00 on new springs with a 2-3 lift from Easton or someplace else. I have 6 inch shackles and they're already on the highest hole. I mean it looks and rides great but I want a little more rake. Is adding a leaf still the cheapest way to go? Would a add a leaf for a 71 F-150 work?

you could cut a little off the front coils to bring the front down to give it a little rakeWink not sure on the f150, those springs may be wider??? i'm not overly familiar with the 70-71's...but is your differential on top of the leaf springs? or are the springs on top of the differential?

If you have a spring shop near you, they should be able to add a leaf or re-arc your existing springs for fairly little money. If you do it yourself, you would need to check width, arc and length on any leaf you add. A mismatched leaf can make the rear really squirrely as well.
Johnny, Axle tube should be on top of the leafs currently.
