Seeing as there does not seem to be a good(1972) Montego site that has the reputation of this site, I thought I would join and, at the very least, enjoy all the chassis tech help provode some when I can. I also have a '71 LTD wagon that hauls my kids around on a regular basis!Tongue

Welcome!  There are plenty of us Montego owners around here.  And wagon owners.  I happen to have both of those rolled into one.  Would love to see some pics of both your cars!

The '71 Galaxy wagon. It took a direct deer hit  on the highway last Spring and it took all summer to find parts(hood, grill, fender etc.) The hood reamins in black primer for now. The ONLY place I found that had all the stuff in oe place was a giant yard in Camp Douglas Wisconsit (near Tomah) that has over 6000 cars on 300 acres, self serve, no roads and bring your wasp spray!

That is a clean wagon! Noticing the chrome around the base of the roofline - was it originally a vinyl roof wagon? That is super cool.

Yes, vinyl roofs were an option on some '70s wagons.

Nice "long roof" there! Is the rear bumper stock? Have you tucked it in??

The bumper is stock.
I had no knowlege of this being a vinyl top, but to be honest I never really thought that much about the trim at the base of the roof! If it was converted, they did a very nice job. The wagon has 125,000 miles so it is possible one of the previous owners decided to axe the vinyl.

So, I did a little digging.  EVERY picture of a '71 Ford LTD, Country Squire, or Country Sedan wagon that I could find has that trim.  That trim seems to be standard regardless of whether you have a vinyl roof or not.  You'd have to order a Marti report to know for sure.

My dad's 71 country squire had the same molding, and it didn't have a vinyl top.
