I was curious if anyone has a station wagon roof rack for sale. I was thinking it might be cool to mount on my 1963 Ford Econoline van. It's all just curiosity at this point. I'd like to get the racks measurements and a pic for photo shopping onto the van first.

Joe might be able to get you some pics of the one on his Squire. I've never taken a direct photo of my luggage rack. What are you going to do about the "spoiler"?

The spoiler is the main reason I'm considering it. I've seen van's before with a rack/spoiler and it looked good.

Growing up my parents has a '73 GT Wagon and maybe that's another reason to go that way...or at least look into it. Most likely it won't be doable, but worth a look.

The plans I have for the van at the moment are to make it into a replica from a TV show, (no not freaking Scooby Doo something else) lol, But you know how plans can change.

by 'spoiler' do you mean the air deflector that reduces the tendency for exhaust to come in through the open rear window?

we had a brand x wagon in 1968, IIRC the dealer called it back & installed the spoiler after we had it only a short time

it's actually the opposite of a traditional spoiler. where a spoiler causes downforce on the rear,
the deflector causes lift by directing hopefully cleaner air downward over the window opening

you don't want to drive a wagon with the rear window open if you don't have the deflector! Dead

That's what I meant. I love the look of it. If I had my wagon in out driveway, I'd get pics/measurements for you...

Rock is exactly right.

Red wagon w/o the deflector = slow, smelly death.
Brown wagon with the deflector = nice, sorta smell-free ride.

Here's a picture of the van. If you take a picture, see if you can get one from this angle.

Actually, now that I think about it...I guess it doesn't matter, I can find another van pic to match

ahh, you did buy the van. so is that what the air deflector is for? i was told years ago it was supposed to keep dust from getting on the rear window when like driving down a long dirt road, i figured that was all B.S. because i'd see lots of wagons with it and the rear window was so dirty you couldn't even see out of it Wacko   BTW still diggin' your slot car movie!!

Thanks for the rack pic. That looks like a good possibility!

I did get the van, back in March or so. It's in Arizona in storage so I haven't been able to do anything with it yet except I took the front and rear doors off and drug them out here to Abilene and have been working with them. They had some dents and a ton of drilled holes where someone decided several times to change the mirrors.

The holes are all welded and hopefully by the time I leave back to Arizona (late August) they'll be ready to paint.

I haven't been neglecting my Torino of course. Since I've been here I had duel exhaust installed and had a friend tune it up nicely. In fact there's a car show this weekend I'll be taking her to!

btw, Glad you still are liking that Slot Car movie! lol
I watched it for the first time in a while about a month ago and was thinking what a shame I never made the planned sequel. Damn internet, sucking up all my spare time! Tongue

LOL...looks like someone did beat me to the punch on the Pics...sorry about that....but the measurements are:

56 1/2 inches from front to back minus the little wind deflector which hangs over the back

39 1/2 inches from side to side

41 1/4 inches is the widest part of the wind deflector

I hope this helps... Good luck!

Went to the junkyard today and found this Rack on a 73 Mercury. It looks like it's in pretty good shape and cost $35 if I take it off myself. Seems like a good price, anyone know if it is?

Sounds good to me. I didn't know that these cars had the same racks as the fullsize wagons.

they classify our cars as mid size, but they are wide as most full size cars, and the wagons are long, i'd guess that they used the same racks.

I'd be all over that.  It's so hard to find older cars in yards around here.  I'd love to have access to a yard like that.  I'd have to resort to finding something online, and paying shipping.

Yeah there's a lot of old lots in Texas and in Arizona there's some that only have 1980's and older. I was looking on-line at how many Torinos they had and it was almost a dozen so I'm going to go see in person when I get back

Very cool.  I may have to plan a trip to TX just to check out some of those old yards.  I'm on the lookout for a 72-73 Montego GT hood.  Keep me in mind.

You are welcome and thanks for the kudos Uante. For $35 bucks I'd be ALL over that too!

Yes my license plates were courtesy of the "legend" himself! I painted my garage and needed a lil décor. My neighbor liked it so much he's working on his garage now.  Damn Jones', ya can't quite ever keep up! LOL
