Has anyone ever had a rear window seal# D20B 6542084D?I've been told the b and z are the same. Not,I just got my second part with the Z that replacedthe B and they cocontinue to be too big on the top by like 4 inches.D20Z 6542084D is definitely not the same part.I need serious help here gentleman as I can't drive my car without a rear window in North Dakota.

When you order a rear window seal for your car, never (ever) tell them it is a (sport) model. Always tell them that it is a regular gran torino formal roof model, or 1973 torino (base) formal roof model torino. The best thing that you can do now is to tell them that it is a 1973 torino four door sedan, if they ask you if it is a station wagon just say no.
The reason that i am telling you to do this is because the 2 door formal roof torinos and the four door torino sedans have the same exact rear window, so they use the same exact rear window seal. Edited by dave302 - 27-August-2014 at 11:33AM |

Autokrafters is listing the part number for the formal roof rear seal as: D20Z-6542084D, but as you said this seal will not fit your rear window. so someone had made a mistake somewhere. Maybe when they labeled the seal they had made a mistake or something? To see the listing for this seal Click Here. As you can see it is most likely their mistake, or maybe the factory who had made the seal had made the mistake when they had put the part number on it.

The two door formal roof models and the four door sedans have a body codes of 53 and 65. I believe the 65 is for a two door formal roof.
The fast back/sportsroof models have a body code of 63. But my point is that you did give them the right part number and they had used the right part number for the seal on their website, but some how they had sent you the wrong seal by mistake.

You say that the seal is too big on the top by about 4 inches. Do you mean that the fastback seal is longer by about 4 inches on each side? If that is what you are saying, then that could possibly mean that the fastback/sports roof seal is eight inches longer (total length) than the formal roof seal. My advise to you is to make sure that you tell them to remove the seal from the box and wrapper and measure it all around before they send it to you next time. You should take a measurement of the total length of the sportsroof seal (that they had sent to you) and write it down on a piece of paper. then take the measurement around the rear window seal on your formal roof seal and write it down on a piece of paper. Give them the measurements when you order a replacement seal. Then when you return the seal to them and they send you a replacement seal, they should measure the seal before they send it to you. Eight inches is large enough for them to see the difference between a sportsroof seal and a formal roof seal. Obviously they have been sending you the fastback/sportsroof seals instead of the formal roof seals.

They also have a 1972 rear window seal for the #63 fastback body style listed. They list it as:
The part number for the fastback/sport roof seal is: D20Z-6342084-D As you know, you definetly do not want to purchase this fastback seal for your formal roof car. But i will show it to you so you can see it. If you want to see this item for sale Click Here. Edited by dave302 - 27-August-2014 at 1:42PM |

This window gasket issue comes up a lot and would probably make a good sticky...

with all the issues you've had with this seal, i've decided to just reuse my original one (it's good and still plenty pliable, it's just dark green, i'm changing to black) i'll probably hit it with a light coat of paint like carl did

Please make sure that you tell them to measure the seal this time before they send you a replacement seal. You had used the correct part number when you ordered the seal. They had sent you a package with the correct part number on it. But they had sent you the wrong seal.

I used the rope trick.but ive discovered another way.apply sealant to car, install just the seal, put sealant in channel then work in window.then another bead of sealant in between roof and seal...done.
