I just joined this forum. I recently purchased a 75 Torino in great shape from the original owner. 95000 miles on it, not winter driven. I'm going to tackle the rims/tires and exhaust before paint. I'm thinking 15's front and back with wider wheels in back. I'm looking for slot mags,  Ansen has some that look good. Any suggestions from you folks on wheels? Aspect ratios on tires? I'm thinking 60 or 70. I will raise the back end probably with lifting shackles to get the correct profile. Is flowmaster the best choice for the exhaust? I'm going to do a dual setup. I  want a bit of rumble, but not a harley.Big smile  Any ideas are appreciated, thanks. Beer

welcome, post up some pix of your car, and as Cali John said start a project thread. Your 75 has coil spring suspension...so shackles won't work, I'd recommend station wagon springs for a nice rake. But we call talk about the mechanicals in your project thread. It's always great to meet a new owner. You've chosen the correct place to share your car.

Thanks gents. I'm getting my mechanic to do a full tune up as well. The front end/steering seems a little loose, but the suspension and brakes are good. The car is blue with matching interior. Interior will have to stay blue as the budget is limited, though it's in great shape. Fuel guage doesn't work and engine temp guage only moves a little past "C" when driving it. Pics coming soon . I found a pair of sport mirrors on ebay  I'm buying as it only has one chrome mirror now.

Welcome!  Loose steering might be your rag joint, a very common wear item on these cars.  Ansen still makes some nice slot mags.  Not sure what the consensus is on air shocks now-a-days.  That might be an option to raise the back end.  Looking forward to pics and you progress!!

As far as rear springs go, there is a whole thread on coil springs:
If you want to raise the rear for that 70s-80s rake, here is some specific info in a chart with MOOG part #s. CC springs are cargo-coils, and the mark V springs will raise you an inch to an inch and a half above stock.

Any ideas on rims/tires?  I'm thinking 15" all around, wider in the rear. Ansen sprint wheels look ideal but not sure they will fit? What is the original bolt pattern/size? Thanks. Beer

wow! i wish my car was in that good of shape when i got it! bolt pattern is 5 on 4 1/2" i've got 15 X 10 (4" back spacing) with 275/60/15 on the rear 15 X 8 on the front with 235/50/15 (not available anymore) so i'll go with 235/60/15 later. these cars have a lot of room in the wheel wells!

Ansen sprints are great wheels, but as far as I know American Racing is the place still making slotted mags. I have Ansens, not only are they increasingly harder to find, but I have only ever found ansens in a 14 in a torino bolt pattern. And some of the super wide rears that fit our bolt pattern have horrible offsets, which is why I dont have the 10" wide rear rims the car came with (because they sliced the sidewalls on my 1/4.

The american racing are available in 15s for sure and maybe bigger, and you can order to your bolt pattern and offset. I dont know if theyve dropped in price when I looked into it they were around 550-600 each.

these should fit perfect for the rear as they are only 9" wide with a 5"b.s. none of the original 15 X10's had a 5"b.s. 3-4" which puts the rim outwards and could rub. 15x10 with 5"b.s.would be perfect but unfortunately none were ever made with a zero offset(5" b.s.)

Thanks. Summitracing.com has the Ansen sprint wheels for 150-200$ each. They come in 15x7 and 15x8. Also 17' rims but that's too big. But I'm waiting for my mechanic to get the exact lug pattern and spacing for the rims. Kinda sounds like here it's 5 bolts on 4.5". Ermm

Michael,
This is the TV Hero#1.....
Everything I've read says they just added Hi-Jacker air shocks. Tires from that period were probably LR60-15's on 15 x 8.5 rims.
Here is my LE from the day.....
Hurst air Shocks (fully inflated) with Goodyear GT RADIAL LR60-15's on ET 15 x 10 slot mags.
Here is restored TV HERO#2....

Equipped with wagon rear springs, air shocks (not overly inflated) and 1 1/2" spacer on each spring, 275/60R15 tires on 15 x 8.5 rims. This is the car I'm cloning, so I will go the same route on mine.
Hope this helps!

I think this is the look/rake I'm going for. Wheels are the same diameter, not excessively fatter in back, rims are correct. I'm also taking the trim off the side of the car, I think the finished product looks better without it.

what's up with #2? it's missing a lug nut!
are you planning on removing the lower rocker molding? or just the upper thin molding along the middle?

Hi, That particular torino I used gabriel high jackers. That is pretty much all I use to get the right rake.  I try to use 8.5 x 15" on the rear and 7 x 14" on the fronts when I have them. I use what I have at the time. Try P275-60-15 on the rear and P225-75-14 on the front.

I didn't know you could get 275 tires on a 8.5" rim. The 225/75/14 are original size when it was new. Thanks. Beer

i agree with you i don't care for the thin trim either, but i've seen some that don't have the rocker molding at the bottom or the wheel trim, and i don't think that looks right either IMO!
yes a 275/60/15 tire will fit on a 8" rim, the 275's that i have were mounted on the funky 5 spoke 8" wheels that were on my car when i bought it, the 275's were really good so i just put them on the slots when i got them
