Here's a pic of a Torino wagon running 17" slots.  I think it looks purdy good.
EDIT:  Just read through the 2nd page.  Didn't realize the exact look you were going for.  17's probably won't work for ya.

What part of the frame do you need? I have a 1974 - 1976 frame - just tell me where you need it cut.

My body guy found parts. He's working on it now, then back to the garage for the safety and engine tune-up. Then the rims/tires and suspension. Then the dual exhaust, and finally the paint. I'll keep the updates coming.

The only things needed to pass safety are-1. fuel gauge doesn't work, and 2-windshield fluid spray doesn't work.  That's it. Garage searching for parts. Body guy has it again to get doors to close with no gaps.

fuel gauge: check the wire connectors for good contact, where it connects at the sending unit and the connector under the carpet below the brake pedal, if that all checks good to the gauge, then it may be the sender, but i'd check all that before you replace the sending unit and find out it's just a wireConfused
windshield washer: check for power at the plug on the washer jug, if you have power there then most likely it's the pump motor on the jug

Thanks, my mechanic says the fuel gauge is getting a signal but the gauge is toast, and I need a washer fluid switch. He's looking for parts. Any thoughts on rims? I keep looking at the American racing Ansen sprint slot mags. Thoughts?

Still waiting for my body guy to finish aligning the doors when they're closed and installing the sport mirrors. Then a fluids change, new fuel filter, and start on the wheels. I'm going with Goodrich TA radials and working on the rims. Found a local supplier for Ansen slot mags but I want my garage to confirm bolt pattern before I order them

got it back from body guy, looks better, fluid changes done. Got a local Ansen dealer asking $170 for the rims, VN69 polished slot mags. He's suggesting 215/70/15 tires up front, 275/60/15 in back. I agree with the back sizing, not sure about the front? Seems narrow. Thoughts?Question

paul, i haven't been able to get to the post office yet on your parts, hopefully tomorrow,
tires: what about a 225/60/15? some tire manufacturers don't offer a 235 but they have a 225, and the other way around. a 235/60/15 may be tight on a 7" rim, and a 70 series is pretty tall, i'd go with a 60 series, i think both of those sizes are available in the bfg t/a tire

225/60 or 235/60 are the way I would go.
I went with 235/60

John, whenever you can get to the post office is great. I checked bfg site and they make a 225/70/15, I'm still thinking 235/60 might be the way to go.

New tires.
Not mounted yet.

Here are 17 pages of tire/wheel pics and discussions...

the best and probably most common combo on our 72-79 cars is 275/60/15 rear and 235/60/15 front.
they work well with 8" rims all the way around.
Nice rake, handles the weight, fits the wheel wells nice etc...

Nice Torino!  What part of Ontario are you from?  What engine do you have in it?  Nice to see another Canadian.
I don't know if you've decided on you wheels or not yet, but here's my experience.  I have 15 x 8" wheels at all four corners on my 1972.  My wheels are repro Magnum 500's and they have a 4.5" backspacing.  There is good clearance all the way around and the front wheels don't rub at full lock.  The rears still have tons of room.

Now I didn't want the small/big tire look on my car, so I went with 245/60R-15's in BFG Radial T/A's all the way around (they were also close to the original G70-14's in diameter).  No issues with tire clearance and the BFG's are great street tires.  I wouldn't go smaller than a 235/60-15 in the front and a 245/60-15 or 255/60-15 would work well too.   The two smaller tires size could use a 15x7 or a 15x8 rims.  The 225/70-R15's are too short of a tire for they big wheel wells (in my opinion). These cars understeer and a tire too small on the front end will only make that worse.  The 275/60-15's are a great size for the rear and are not too far off the original tire diameter.

Obviously the look you are going for may dictate your tire choice.

Keep in mind the stock tires for your car is HR78-14's, which 27.6" tall.

Here are some other specs to keep in mind when selecting a tire.  These are all available in the BFG Radial T/A line.

225/60-15's are 25.6" tall
235/60-15's are 26.1" tall
245/60-15's are 26.6" tall
255/70-15's are 27.0" tall
275/60-15's are 27.9" tall

Hey thanks, I'm in Ancaster, near Hamilton. It's a 351 Windsor,  nothing outside the ordinary, seems to run well. Gotta get use to these non-injected engines again. I've decided on 235/60/15 for the front and 275/60/15 for the rear. I checked the BFG site and it lists the 275's at a diameter of 71.1cm and the 235's at 66.3 cm diameter. I want the rear end up a bit. Going with Ansen sprint mags, 15x7 in front and 15x8 in back. And of course the BFG radials.

Here's another company offering the vintage slot mag wheel.... US MAGS

15x5, 15x7, 15x8
product data sheet

15x8, 15x9, 15x10, 17x9

I think they look more vintage correct than the Ansen's from American Racing...

But that's my opinion. Not sure if you were aware of the US Mags or not......

Strange thing, on the US mag site, when I enter my postal code, it shows closest dealer 75 miles away. When I search their list of international dealers, there's one showing 30 minutes away. I will call that one tomorrow. Not sure if there's a quality difference between US mags and Ansen? Both look fairly close to each other.

another added benefit to buying new wheels, they should have better alloys in the modern aluminum so they should shine better! did you have the mirrors painted, or were they the same blue?  looks good keep the pics and updates comingThumbs Up
