The 304 is better quality and less likely to corrode.  409 is cheaper but will corrode with time, especially if you drive the car in the winter.  409 is still far better than aluminized IMO.

Just went to my painter yesterday for his estimate.......he could have at least kissed me first. Cry  Looks like my dual exhaust will have to wait another year. I will just swap the muffler for a better sounding one as my budget is now kaput. On the bright side the painter is awesome. They will strip the car down, removing all chrome and trim not just covering it when they paint. They painted my brother's 78 corvette recently, looks mint. Anyone know where I can find the chrome outside rocker panels for under the door? My pax side one is pitted. Thanks. Beer

You might be able to save a few bucks on the paint job if you strip all the chrome and trim yourself.  I am not a painter, but the last car I had painted, I stripped it and even did most of the prep.  Saved me tons of money.

I sent an email to nosparts, Thanks for the tip about stripping the car parts. Unfortunately I'm not all that handy and don't have a ton of extra time. We agreed on a price that included them doing all that work. But thanks for the info. Beer

Sadly nosparts doesn't have the rockers. I found stainless steel ones on ebay but I'm not convinced. I found door hinge pins on Dearbornclassics but want to charge me 46$ for shipping 12$ worth of parts.

the hinge pins from dearborn/macs are great but the hinge bushings are wrong, i
'll check and find the right part # for the bushings
i ended up using these dorman / help #38374 (2 sets) they come as an assortment.  but here are some one ebay that are just the size needed and enough to do both doors and shipping out side the u.s. :

Macs carries the same stuff as Dearborn, and their shipping is reasonable since they are just near Buffalo.  I ordered my armrests from them, and they were okay to ship.

......So I called Macs, and asked about shipping. They normally use a courier which incurs unnecessary customs costs. Of course they can ship parts via regular mail they say.....So 4 new door hinge pins and 8 new bushings are now enroute to my abode for about $40 shipping included. Wink Should go to paint in a couple of weeks. I need to install a performance muffler though, any thoughts? I will also remove the cat. converter as it's not needed for anything.

Glad it worked out for you.  If forgot to mention when I dealt with Macs I went by USPS and it was way cheaper.

For mufflers, I like Magnaflows and most exhaust shops can get them.  I have Flowmaster 50's on my car now, and they are pretty tame so I wouldn't recommend them.

Thumbs Up the pins from macs are great they have splines on the top so they seat into the hinge and stay but i'm afraid you got the same bushings that i got from them that do not fit, too small of out side dia. to fit in the hinges they say they fit 60 something upto 79!!  i'll check the part# on the ones i got that didn't work, see if that's the same #'s you got

^^^wtf is this in blue (link) i didn't post that it goes to some clutch disc on ebay!???? Shocked

now it's gone and the word "ebay is linked in blue! HUH???Shocked

My entire wheel package is in. But I'm waiting until after paint before they go on. That was the painter's advice.

I know, I was hoping for the dual setup, but alas the budget is blown. Unhappy  However it sounds great with the new Mach muffler installed. A few items I will deal with next year-dual exhaust, 4 barrel carb, new steering wheel. Now just waiting for the painter to contact me saying he's ready.Cool
