Hi Guys and Gals! I have a 1974 Gran Torino Brougham which I have converted to a Starsky and Hutch Replica! It started as a Chesnut brown low mileage car from Calgary, Alberta! 2 owners from new and 47000 original Miles! I bought it in the summer of 2014 and it took me about 5 weeks to do the body and paint. Over Christmas 2014 I removed the motor and rebuilt it. It's a 351W with a FMX Transmission and 9" Rear end. No A/C, No Cruise and No Electric Windows or Locks.... Just the way I like it!
Thanks for the add and hope to gain valuable input from you guys!

Cheers, Matt

Nice looking ride! I checked out your photobucket link. a lot of work in short time. Tell me more about your exhaust, Who made the intermediate pipe? did you paint the black stripe after the red and white?

Hi, yes the body was rust free and the car has been stored inside for its whole life. The only patch I had to weld in was behind the Right Rear wheel well. I also welded in the Rear Qtr windows myself and had the body shop do rest. I did all the work myself apart from actual painting. I am lucky to have a shop with a hoist which helps a lot! I had a machine shop build my heads and I had the local exhaust guru do the Dual exhaust. I tried to find a part number for headers, but was could not find any number that was specific to my car. I ended up going with Hooker Header 6901HKR and they fit perfectly... Only real gamble I took.
The black line around the White stripe was painted on and I was there with the painter when we painted the car. We painted the White first and went with the Bright Toner white. Viper Red for the Red. The car was base cleared.
According to my Iphone I bought the Car on 17th August 2014 and the day it was done was 25th September 2014.
I pulled the motor on 26th November 2014 and put it back in and ran it on 12th December 2014. I have a shop which helps, but only work on my own stuff when things are slow or at the weekends... I am married and I have 2 kids.... They love it! My wife works with me at my shop and does window tinting and is our book keeper.... Looking forward to car show season!

Cheers, Matt

Great job on the paint and body, the car looks great!  What a massive improvement on the stock brougham setup.  The underside looks clean for a Canadian car.  Nice work on the exhaust too.

Good to see another Canadian on the site.

Hey, thanks, the x-pipe was custom made and mandrel bent. It started as 2 pieces of straight pipe! The exhaust guy I use is amazing.
I looking forward to this year and hopefully will meet some of you !

Another Canuck here, nice. I see you left the interior beige, I'm leaving mine blue. Very nice transformation. Good work, looks great. What size rims and rubber?

Hey Paul100ca, Thanks for the compliment. I used the American Racing Ansen Sprint in the 15x7 front and 15x8 rear. I went with the Mickey Thompson Sportsman Tires with White lettering in 275/60R15 for the rear and 235/60R15 for the fronts.
Where are you located?
Cheers, Matt

I'm just outside Hamilton, Ontario. Lots of snow here. My 75 is going in for paint in a couple of weeks, I bought it in Nov, 2014, then spent a lot of time getting it safetied. That was a headache. It has 96,000 miles on it, you can see the pics in the SandH thread. I bought US Mags U101 rims, 15x7 up front and 15x8 in the rear. And BFG radial TA's. Same size rubber as you. I'm trying to get a performance muffler installed before paint, I ran out of budget and can't do dual exhaust this year. Wheels will go on after paint.

I chose to keep the interior as it was mint and was a shame to mess with it and I figured it went well with the red. I don't think I could of found a better donor. The guy I bought it from bought it from the original owners estate sale in Brandon, Manitoba in 2005/6 and had the Out of Province inspection done then. Then it sat in the guys machine shop in Calgary until I bought it. He said it never moved from 2006-Aug 2014. He did install 4 new tires before he put it For Sale. I drove it from Calgary to Medicine Hat, Ab which is about 250Kms after putting fresh gas in it and got back Ok. I had my wife follow me though ;).

You were lucky to find one in that great condition. The beige interior looks good and is in great shape, I would have kept it also.

Welcome to the forums at GranTorinoSport.org!

My wife and I normally go up to Lake Louise (via Calgary) in late January / early February of most years.

Will definitely have to coordinate - I'd love to meet up with you and see the car!

We normally fly into Calgary (from Seattle, short flight) and grab a rental car and make our way to Lake Louise.
