I LOVE THIS FORUM ! Started out this morning looking for info on possibly changing out the seats in my Ranchero and two hours later I was still looking but learned alot from all the toipcs I got distracted by.The Marti Report indicates my Ranchero was born with a bench seat. It now has what I would call a split bench with two center arm rests that fold down. It also has the manual and electric seat back release (disconnected) and that dark brown upholstery that keeps my fat butt from sliding in easily. I don't have much use for the ash trays in the seat backs either. The seats obviously came from a two door something made by Ford as they fit the mounting points perfectly but they seem too fancy to be Torino. They have manual adjusters and are VERY HEAVY. Now 4 the questions. Their sheer weight got me to thinking about changing them out for something like Recarro's or ?? I don't really want a center console because of the 4-speed. I'm intrested in what others have used and of course the mounting method as I don't want to completely rebuild the floor. I would like to know if I can use the current seat rails/sliders as that seems like it might be the easiest way to avoid alot of fabrication. Another thing that I have wondered about is the relationship between the 72' Torino and the 72' Thunderbird ie. the frame, suspension and other mechanicals. Sorry for the long winded post, I'm practicing on my tablets virtual keyboard... (sucks)

72-76 t-bird is a longer version of the same chassis, as is the 72-79 Mark IV, V. There are some minor detail differences, such as brake size, lug spacing, and sway bar sizes.

the seat sounds like the ones that were in the Elite...
SAME seat track mounts for all the 72-79 cars. |
