I'm considering swapping the C-6 for an AOD in my '71 Montego. Have any of you done this swap? Which trans is simpler, a hydraulic or an AOD-E which will require an ECU. What about the trans crossmember? can I use the stock one or will I need a custom one? I know the drive shaft will need to be modified. My goal is better mileage and cruiseability. Any advise would be appreciated.  Oh, the engine is a 4 barrel 351 Cleveland and a 3.25 rear. Any advice is appreciated.

i swapped my FMX for an 84 AOD in my 74 torino, 351W. cross member and mount was the same, i did trim a little off the front lip of the cross member so i could drop the pan if needed, and swapped the front drive shaft yokes, using the AOD yoke on the torino driveline. added a floor shifter. and used a lokar kick down cable kit. fairly bolt in swap, but not sure about the cleveland

If it bolts to a Windsor, it will bolt to a Cleveland. Flexplate is going to be a question. AOD uses the same flexplate as FMX, don't know if it's the same as C6

i thought they bolt the same as a windsor, but i wasn't 100%. but is the bolt pattern on the crank the same as a windsor???IDK, if it is then grab the flexplate too with the tranny. i know they are mostly the same between the 302 and the 351W only difference there is the converter drain plug is on opposite sides of the converter stud
