    Posted: 26-August-2015 at 3:46AM
Does anyone have their shifter apart that can show me how it gets connected. All the wires I need to know. It's a 72 gran Torino floor shift. I had them all marked but my buddy covered some of the wires with the undercoat and it's been so long sense I took it apart I can't remember. I have the books but they don't show what goes where. Any help would be great and thanks in advance

was it an original floor shift car? or did you convert to a floor shifter? don't the wires have connectors on them that plug together? can you check the wire colors to the corresponding colors at the other part of the harness connection?  need a little bit more background info to this, please

the blue w/purple stripe is for the light it will hook up to the same color wire for the dash lights!
i converted to a floor shift too it was from a mustang..they cut the wires off flush with the outer edge of the shifter, i was going to wire it and discovered the neutral switch was broken anyways, since i went with an AOD trans it has the switch inside the tranny, so i just wired the back up light circuit to my column shift connector and the light for the pointer (blue w purple)
i'll look for the broken neutral switch later and see if i can figure out some of the connections...
look at the wires on the light bulb socket blue w/purp is dash light positive, IIRC there is a black wire from it too...that is the ground for the bulb

looking at the pic above: the black is grounded, the brown single wire is for the light bulb it will go to either the blue w/purp or a single brown connector (should be one under were the drivers seat is--that's also the marker/tail light circuit)

Here's a link to the '73 Torino/Montego wiring diagram from the GTS documents resource...

I think the 72-76 (and perhaps thru '79) should all be very similar, so this might make it easier to figure out which wire is which.

Hope it helps!

I was busy picking up a carload of parts..... got a couple bumpers, a couple marker lights, a couple hood releases, a pair of hinges, a few headlight housings, a couple sets of headlight housing mounting brackets, a new pair of rear brake cables, a steering column, a grille "floor", a grille, a brand new still-in-box 302 oilpan, a brand new still-in-box ginger headliner, a driveshaft, a bunch of sportsroof trim, and a new heater coil:)

But that means I gotta carry a lot of stuff now and make room for it. Lol
