    Posted: 26-September-2015 at 6:03AM
I'm new to this site and have read through many post on many different topics. This is a great source for information on anything pertaining to our cars! I read post each week looking for a specific part(s).

Does anyone know of where I can find a reproduced or usable set of the latch pillar seals for the quarter windows on a 72 Torino Fastback. They are located at the top of the latch pillar, where door latches, on the 1/4 panel right below the 1/4 glass, specific to the 72-73 Torino Fastback. It's the rubberized metal plate that prevents debris from falling in the front side of the quarter window. Any help on where I can find these would be great since my old builder tossed the ones on the car.

Thanks in advanced!

welcome! unfortunately those seem to be the only parts that are not reproduced Cry  there is a thread on here somewhere about coating them with plasi-dip in a spray can (available at home depot) i did that to mine, it came out ok, but i'd really like new ones. also there is a member here that is making some reproductions himself

There is a member that is reproducing the seals. He believes that he has made them to the best of his current capabilities with what he had to work with. The molding process he uses are only as good as the original piece being molded. With that said he was unable to get a perfect specimen to start with and had to do the best he could using modeling clay and PlastDip to touch up the donated pieces.
The finish is not identical from one to the other but not terribly noticeable unless you look close. I have put the pictures below, side by side so you can get a close look. He sprayed the parts with gloss black and clear sealer after molding and he thinks it made them look good.

They are made with Urethane with a Shore D hardness rating of 80. This enabled him to closely replicate the rigidity of the part without a metal core. This of course means the area that comes in contact with the window is much harder than the original. Even though it is called a Pillar Post Quarter Window "Seal", he thinks that the main intent is to cover the hole between the door and window opening.

He had said that "It is almost impossible to seal the opening completely from dust and dirt". He wants this fully explained so everyone can understand the pricing he will be using. For members he will be offering these for $40 each or $75 for a pair. Once he puts them on Ebay it will be $100 a pair or $50 each. No break on a pair. He is asking people to call him on the telephone if they wish to purchase these.

The sellers name is Dan Frey, he is from Johnson Creek, Wisconsin.
His phone number is: 9 Two 0- 2 Eight 5- 3 Eight 16

Californiajonny,

Thank you for responding fast, it's a relief to know this seal issue is still out there and under watch and people like yourself are helpful! I got a response from David302 fast also with good contact info. I'll give that member a try on reproduced seals.

Thanks again!

Dave302,

Thank you very much! I've scoured the web for these pieces and no luck. I used to have both my seals until I took my car to a builder that ended up going out of business when my care was in pieces, hence the missing pillar seal. I do have one and haven't decided 100% to use it or go with the reproduced set the gentlemen you mentioned makes. I will contact him and see where it goes!

Thank you for your help, ALSO!!

I gave him a call earlier this evening and left a voicemail. He called me back in an hour or so. Had a nice conversation with him. He did say he will be working on these during the winter or when he gets more spare time.

Yeah, I'm hoping for a set for the Tomato as well! Scored a NOS '74-'76 passenger side a few years ago but the driver side has been elusive......

have you guys looked at the 72-76 T-bird/Mark IV to see if they are the same? they still turn up in junkyards from time to time and are usually kept up a lot better.

I contacted him in the first half of January and he's had a rough winter with work. I know his priority is setting up his business full time which has occupied most of his spare time. I don't want to bother the guy when he has other stuff that's more important going on in his life but here in a week or two I'll give him a call to see how things are going. I'd like to get both sides from him so I'll update the thread when I find something out!

He had also posted some info on the forum facebook page and I think a few pics of some of his first repops. I believe he's doing the '72-'73 seals first and then (hopefully) the '74-'76 seals.

The '74-'76 lack the deeper/smaller V notch since their quarter windows are fixed.

The '72-'73 torino seals and the '74-'76 torino seals appear to be the same exact seals and maybe all you have to do is cut a slit down in the '74-'76 seals to make them fit onto the '72-'73 torino's.

And maybe you can build up the V notch area of the '72-'73 torino seals with something like a sealant product that is safe to use on rubber seals, to use them on the '74-'76 torino's.

I used RTV to repair a torn 1/4 window seal on my old 72 Sportsroof, it held until the very end Broken Heart

Censored I wish I knew how hard to find & $$$ some of those parts are back then

now that I think about it, I may still have all that glass with the repaired 1/4 seal still on it Beer

they are fixed. when i was disassembling the car i looked at that area inside the quarter panel and thought about making the roll down, as i think joe was too, but just decided against it as i had more than enough things to do!
just like the posts about using t-tops from a t-bird into a torino... thank god that didn't get posted until i was far enough along, that i couldn't do it or i probably would have Confused
