Is there anything special about a 302 crank. When I bought the car 5+ yr. ago the owner made a point to state it had a ford 302 crank. He was so adamant about it having a ford crank.

around 1985? Ford changed the factory imbalance factor from 28.x oz to 50 oz

both the harmonic balancer & the flex / flywheel needs to match the crank

only thing I can think of, maybe he found out the hard way Ouch

not like Ford didn't make 183 gajillion of them, good to know I guess

FWIW you can get an offshore POS that is not indexed accurately from one throw to the next and has out of spec diameters & taper right out of the box

there is a lot to be said for OEM quality

A 4340 forged steel Ford 5.0 crankshaft will take about anything you can throw at it. Not expensive ($250-$400 on sale) and well worth it for a solid base. Stay away from the cheapo stuff, as saving a couple of hundred bucks may well cost you several thousand in broken parts and labor.

Its a 2m early model with two piece rear seal. As far as I can tell most guys on a mustang thread I looked at said it was stronger than a 5.0 just have to grind down the lip for rear seal change damper and flywheel etc.   I will put motor back in car as is.Its a 74 falcon 30 over flat top pistons with roller heads.
