yes joe, i think you are correct! i replaced mine with energy suspension ones in red, and they do have that straight shank section!! and that would be about the right size.

Well I think I know what it is... I think it's a dust boot off my old tie rods which would explain why it's lacking the perimeter groove for the sheet metal to fit into. Thanks for all the suggestions!

hmm, mine didn't have any like that (not to say it wasn't missing...like some parts) but i don't have A/C, but i think the fords have that putty stuff around the outer box like the GM's???to seal the a/c core.

Johnny,

Thanks for keeping me from having to tear apart the master cylinder assembly....

Here is a quick sketch of the mystery piece....

Note that there is just a step to prevent it from falling thru whatever hole it may fit into.....

As always, my thanks for any information!

joe, there's no grommet between the master and booster. it does look like the fuel sender wire and rear lic. plate light wire grommet, BUT those don't have that large of a center hole!...??? floor shifter wiring??? (no, that one is about a 3/8" hole) if that's a 50 cent piece, that would make it about a 1" hole, ??????? IDK didn't have none like that on my car Confused

Joe,
I am not looking at one right now but isn't there a grommet somewhere in the upper middle of the firewall?

Joe,

Not the trunk floor grommet and I don't think it's a firewall because there's no "receiver channel" for the sheet metal to pop into to hold the grommet in place. I need to break my master cylinder and booster apart and see if it may fit between the two units. It goes into something I have recently broken down and detailed.... need to sort thru all my recent pictures for evidence of where it came from.

STLL OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS

Looks like either a firewall grommet or a trunk floor grommet for the fuel tank sending unit. Maybe?
