    Posted: 20-March-2016 at 6:14AM
I purchased a 78 LTD II Sport and it came with the original window sticker. I'm going over the sticker and there are a few things that maybe someone can explain.

#1 Deluxe Sound Package-radio has been replaced- any idea what would have been original?
Also at bottom of the sticker says "AM/FM Stereo with Tape"-would this be 8 Track or Cassette?

#2 Convenience Group ?

#3 Protection Group?

#4 Light Group?

Maybe someone can shed some light on these. Thanks in advance.

Also, has anyone found a build sheet in there LTD II? If so where did you find it?

Light Group might just be a renamed version of the Visibility Group (ash tray light, under hood light, lights on buzzer, high beam light in dash, glove box light).

What I have to buy is the dealer brochures and other info which spells it all out.

I've pulled up the rear seat too get the mice nests out and didn't find any sign of the build sheet. Next, I will pull the back of the rear seat and look there.

Could be a cassette.  My '79 Cougar has a cassette.  Not sure about '78 though.  Here's a pic of a '79 Tbird brochure, showing a cassette as an option.  We all know that brochures aren't always accurate, but my '79 Cougar does have a cassette player in it.  I'm assuming it's original.

Thanks Jeff for that piece. I did some research this afternoon and found the same thing. I have to check the car and see whats in it for speakers and or a fader switch. Maybe also looking at the wiring in the dash for the radio. I want to replace the radio with the correct unit whether working or not. I'll use a different music set up but I want it to look right to the window sticker.

Like someone else posted, the lighting group is probably just the old visibility group which basically added a bunch of extra interior lighting.  That brochure about explains the convenience package, so I am sure the LTD II would be similar to that.  My  guess is the protection group would include things like door moldings, bumper rub strips, door edge guards and the like.

Do you have the cornering/curb lights?
Somewhere I have the dealer sales brochure for my Thunderbird.

Yes the car has the cornering lights and that was part of the group along with the entrance lights in the doors, hood and trunk lights like was mentioned before.

The protection group has to do with bumper guards and bumper rub strips.

Car also has Heavy Duty Suspension which included heavy duty rear springs and heavy duty front and rear shocks. Hopefully there was more to that "heavy duty suspension" than a pair of rear springs and shocks.

Anyway Im finding things as I go along. Hopefully the build sheet will show up some where.

Ok.  I found this '78 LTD II brochure.  It specifically mentions 8-track and 8-track Quadrasonic, but no Cassette.  Assuming the brochures are accurate, it looks like '79 might have been the first year that the Cassette was available as an option, so I'm thinking yours would have been an 8-track.  Now, you need to figure out if it was a standard 8 track or 8 track Quadrasonic.

You THINK you're joking...
Sadly, in my garage....
Either one is possible.
However, I was talking about the brochure.

THanks Jeff. I ordered one of those brochures last nigh along with some other paperwork on the LTD II's options and such that was dealer only items for sales purposes. I was thinking 8 track but then I remember way back when the eight tracks were fading out and cassettes were taking over. I bought my first aftermarket AM/FM cassette in dash unit in '79 for my then new Plymouth Roadrunner. Top of the line Jensen with trunk amp. Still in the garage actually up in the rafters.

Anyway thanks again for the info. I'll be looking the car over tomorrow for the rest of the optional equipment. I'll let you know what I find.
