Hello All,
Well,I have now decided to work on the weather stripping as all my weather stripping is complete garbage(all but the trunk)! Can anyone suggest which company is good to buy from, also who has the most complete weather stripping package? If there is a topic about this, sorry, I did look first before posting this. Any help would be appreciated! |

hey guys
need some advice regarding weatherstripping specifically repros.... got a repops beltline kit for a 73 fastback...just fitted the front door exterior pieces and am not that happy with the fit...for a start the metal strip is not as wide as the original...they also are much smaller in height so there's no protection for the glass against the outer door skin when the window is rolled down...most importantly the pre bent curve is not right on one of them so the middle of the metal trim has a 3-4mm gap to the door... is this the general expected quality for repros or did i just get a crap kit? havent been that happy with some of the Dorman stuff either can anyone recommend a brand of felts that is exceptional quality? thanks Edited by Compton - 26-March-2018 at 10:49PM |

I have noticed the repros are not that close to OEM. I have wondered it it would be possible to remove the new rubber window sweeps and install them on the original metal portions of the OEM window sweeps. This might be a solution, but not sure how you'd go about doing it.

Had that thought too but seeing as the rubber is formed around the metal I can't see any way of achieving it and having it last...

Yeah, I don't know how the rubber could be transferred. I thought the aftermarket ones I have are riveted or stapled to the metal? I'd have to dig them out of the garage to check. I am probably not going to use my set (I bought them as a in a bulk purchase) as I wasn't happy with the fitment.

The Repops set are rubber moulded around the metal like original...unfortunately I don't have a choice as my original ones are toast...rubbers completely deteriorated

I'm also in the process of replacing the weatherstripping on my 72 GTS. No luck with the quarter window vertical seal.
Does anyone know the Ford part number for these seals? Has anyone looked into how close these seals are (lengthwise) to the seals on other cars? i was researching this and found that D1ZZ-6330146 and 47 were used for both the 70-71 Torino fastbacks and 71-73 Mustang fastbacks. Just wondering if they would even be close to fitting ours. |

The 70-71 seal works...it's a bit long but it can be bent back on an angle under the window and it makes no difference to the operation...

from what i understand... the 72+ vertical seals are out of production but i've heard that 70-71 vertical seals work just fine but are a little longer at the bottom

You can get the vertical seals from a company on ebay.

Just to follow-up with this thread, I did dig my window sweeps out of the garage and they are also Repops brand. Like Compton said, they are molded to the metal and don't look like they can be removed without damaging them. Based on the fit and difference from OEM, I would not recommend the Repop kit unless you have no other option. I am not sure if there is a better repro brand option.
