If it a 73 hood it will bolt to a 74-76 Cougar. If it a 72 hood the hood will physically bolt to the car but the latch is completely different so it won't work. 73 and up had inside hood release 72 did not.

Have you tried a 94/95 Cobra intake? It's the lowest intake that has the round Cobra ports. You could also mill some off the bottom of the upper and off the top of the lower and get an additional 1/2" lower.

I do indeed like the '80's Mustang scoop. I had one not too long ago when I parted out that Four-eyed Fox. Sat there thinking I really should keep this, but stupidly decided, nah. That would be my choice for a bolt-on, as it flows well with the lines.

The '94-'95 Cobra intake is lower, but does not flow as well. This is going to be a little screamer small block with a 5 speed, so I want to squeeze all I can out of it. Thanks Dave, for the pictures. That helps a lot.

DUDE! Thank you! I have been trying to get a visual on what it is going to look like when I do the conversion. The Cougar setup has vertical bars that are thicker and cast, and I am going to be adding material to the hood to level it out as well as adding material to the center of the front bumper. Kind of a modified version of a '70.

But this certainly gives me pause because it has a certain appeal with the slight "fishmouth".

After breaking the original grill on my wagon by simply leaning over it while tuning up the car, I decided that was not going to work for me.

Here is more of the way I'm envisioning it except with the Cougar setup. Need to decide on keeping the Cougar center divider and inserting a Torino symbol or eliminating it entirely like below.

I LOVE the idea of the hideaways with your car, but why not start with a set of the hideaways like off the wagon above? I know you have the cougar setups already, but with the vertical bars of those grilles, you start out with a uphill battle, not too mention the more squared off shape of the cougar setup. Looks like it could be a pretty easy swap if you use the torino hideaways. I like the looks of your 72 base front end so much more then the fish mouth gran torino. Makes it look like a truly crossover stylin with the more 70/71 front end on the newer body.

Hideaways like the above are very expensive (like $1500-2500 I've heard) and I have the Cougar units already. Also, the mounting setup on the Cougar and Torino are very similar.

ahhh I gotcha, I thought only the "torino guy" in n ky charged insane prices for stuff, didn't know they actually went for that lol    I wonder if its possible to take the leftover grille portion of your broken base grille (if you still have it of course) cut,  and graft it over the cougars door so it matches your center portion better? just talkin out loud here, but I like the direction you have in mind. would be very cool if you can do that.

Dave, you are awesome. The white car with the center section is the look I'm after. I will probably black-out the grill, remove the Cougar emblem in the center part and install a Torino emblem. If I could find a '69-'70 Cougar setup, it would be easier due to the width, but they are pretty expensive also.

Even though this was a rare wagon (equipped like it was), that does not mean it is valuable, so I want to have fun with it and make it into something that is truly unique, but tasteful.

I bet you could find a 69 Cougar parts car, then recoup your money on the remaining parts.  C'mon Joe, you're the Craigslist king.  The '69 Cougar (horizontal bars) setup is going to look more like the 70-71 Torino hide-aways, than the '70 Cougar (vertical bars), but I'm sure you already know that.  Plus, the '70 actually has a section of the hood in the middle, and might be hard to work with.
