Getting close to the point where I need to wrap up the exhaust system. Didn't someone on the forum install 2 1/2" '94-'96 Impala SS tailpipes on their Torino? I'm thinking they said they fit almost perfectly.... Link to topic would help!

THANKS!!

I'll be putting on my spare set of 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder tips when I get to that point, but I like those Imp tips, too!

I'm not concerned with the tips (mine will be turned down before they exit the bumper... not a fan of the tip extending beyond the bumper!). What I'm asking is if the below pipes will roll around the axle and fit like the OEM Torino tailpipes. Want a stainless steel system without the kinks and compression bends the factory had.

These are what I'm looking at.............

Thanks for your feedback.........

"Square" Crown Vic duals fit with a little tweaking. You can use the Police dual exhaust, which does have an "H-Pipe" It needs either the C.V. catalytic convertors or a short pipe right off the manifolds. At the rear, you need to play with it along the gas tank to get a little more space (or cut and add turn-outs). I think it's only 2 1/4" but plenty big for 302 or 351. IDK if you can still get mandrel bent for these...

69-72 Cutlass rear pipes supposedly work as well but no comment on fitment as I have not personally tried. Main issue is making sure the over the axle bends are correct.

I did 3" tails using a Flowmaster U-Fit kit. I was afraid to try the Chevelle kit.
The Flowmaster kit went together well though.

Not the best picture, but maybe it'll help.

Now that the car is in the body shop, I have time to try and tie up some loose ends before they become a hot issue. Let's see if anyone has worked on their exhaust since I first started this thread back in 2016...

The original question was:

WHAT READILY AVAILABLE 2 1/2" MANDREL BENT STAINLESS STEEL TAIL PIPES WILL FIT THE 72-79 TORINO FRAMES WITHOUT A LOT OF HACKING?

Please let's try and stay on topic this time! LOL Tongue

Very interested in options for the exhaust by using stock alternate make's components.  I have side exit glass packs (on the car as I bought it) now running on the fresh 351C and it is harsher than I want.  I had an arrangement like that on my first 72GTS with the 429.  Liked it then, not now.  Guess I am just getting old (true).  I like the look of the tailpipes maybe with turndowns and sounds not louder than Flowmasters.

One of the threads seemed to indicate Crown Vic PI tailpipes should work.  Pictures that I could find on the internet look like this would be a promising solution if not too long.  If so, trim and add the turndowns to complete.  The Impala SS sounds like it might as well.  Has anyone figured this out?  An option I am going to take is visit the salvage yards and see if I can find examples of these.

Any input is appreciated.

Randy, were you ever able to grab any of the mentioned tailpipes to see which ones would work? Getting close to need to get it figured out for my ride pretty soon.....

THANKS

Haven't touched the 'Bird in about two years.
The "square" C.V. Dual exhaust h-pipe works, with a pipe fabbed to go where the cats would be on a C.V., (Crown Vic converter has a different angle/flange than 79 T-Bird, and the converters/manifolds on the earlier cars seem to change annually). GM early 70s a-body tails will fit under the car and go around the gas tank, but are too short to reach the rear (had one physically in place from my brother's car to see about clearance) 90s B-body pipes are now out of production...not in parts stores locally.

Sorry, but I never made it to look at the Crown Vic police car in the Pick-n-Pull.  I still believe it should work as far as the bends.  The mounting would need to be modified, but that is the easy part.

I will try to get there in the next few weeks before it gets too cold.

I have owned four police Crown Vics, an 86, an 85, and two 95's. I still own one 95, and the exhaust is basically symmetrical. The left and right tail pipes are close mirrors to each other. If the typical right pipe will fit, the left one should also be close.

I would not buy a used OEM exhaust, they all will be small 2.25" pipes, and the bends in tight places will be farther away from objects than an aftermarket pipe, or fabricated pipes. I bought a used low mileage 95 cat pipe once because one of mine was a parted out car(the car had a bad valve spring and while stored before auction, they took the cat pipes, swapped the rear(one axle was ABS and the rotors were gone). So I found a 13,700 mile 97 wreck, and bought many of its parts from the JY that won it in the same auction.

You want a nice aftermarket set of tail pipes if possible. For the front down pipes, it's best to have those made unless there is a properly designed set of cat pipes etc. If an exhaust shop is the only answer, you might find one that will install mandrel bends that you buy and bring to them. Only a few locations need good mandrel bends, such as over the rear, the down pipes at the bottom, and around the gas tank etc.

I installed an "X" pipe in 1997 before they made them for most cars, just the cross over section itself($149 then). I bought mandrel bends and cut them to length, to fit in place of what was an "H" pipe. I took an aftermarket "H" pipe with me to a shop, and they cut out the cross over section and welded in the five parts I brought with me. Their welds were poor but it got the job done.
