My 1973 Gran Torino has around 53,000 original miles, I had a tune up done a few years ago, new fuel sender unit, brakes/most of the lines, heater core, new strut rod bushings and a handful of other things done. I'm going to be replacing the heater hoses/radiator hoses soon too. I also just replaced the PCV valve today. The car runs great still but I've had problems like bogging out when accelerating from a stop, and high idle when starting the car sometimes. Also when I rev the engine the idle actually gets stuck in a higher position. I will probably have the carburetor rebuilt soon, does anyone think that will help? Also how about the throttle linkage? We pushed on it by the air cleaner and it dropped down but usually it takes a while and is pretty high when first starting the car. Should I have the linkage rebuilt or is there a kit for that? If there's any suggestions it would be very helpful. It's an original 302 with the original Motorcraft carb.

could be the choke and maybe the fast idle came may need adjusting or sticky? it's suppose to do that when you start it to a point anyway

The problem that I've been having is that the idle doesn't really kick down by itself and when I push the gas pedal the idle sometimes goes even higher and stays in that position until I press the gas pedal a few more times. I ordered a Motorcraft CT499-D carburetor kit so I'll probably have that rebuilt soon but I wasn't sure if there's a throttle linkage rebuild kit for a 1973 302 engine, with the spring and other parts.

Rebuild and CLEAN all linkages, inspect throttle cable for binding and kinks.

Do you know where to get a linkage kit or linkage parts? I've looked at Summit Racing, Dearborn Classics and other places but haven't been able to find anything for the 1973 Gran Torino with a 302 and 2 barrel Motorcraft carb. I am going to have the carb rebuilt this year probably and I would like to have the linkage done too. I'll try cleaning it for now and I'll check for any kinks in the cable

linkages should just need a good cleaning. look for any bent parts. Carb is dirt-simple. One of the easiest carbs to rebuild.
Have someone work the gas pedal and look for binding.

yeah the cable could be frayed and binding! the spring is part of it unsnap it from the carb and see it it moves without catching
