the top of the doors are different shape 1976 to 1977

if you're just using the soft material you might be able to trim them if the 1976 pieces are longer than what you need but i thought both styles are available from various sources?

Dan the Ranchero Man probably knows what's up here

77 and up are different from previous years, especially if you have the wide, top of door molding. I have been trying to find a set that fits the wide moldings on my Ranchero for a few years. There are 2 way clips that are attached to the outside beltline felt weather strip. One part of the clip attaches to the molding, the other holds the molding/weather strip felt assembly to the door. Most weather strip felt kits have a chrome bead on both sides at the top, one for the door panels and the other rests on the top of the door on the outside. The weather strip felt used on the wide upper door molding has no chrome bead. Hope this helps.
With wide upper door molding:

Without molding:

This is the molding I am referring to:

bob, i used their kit for my 74, and i switched to the wide chrome. i was happy with the quality and fit. i would think the later models should work about the same as far as installation?

no, one kit is for the normal trim, the other kit is for the wide trim. you would need the wide trim pieces then get the kit for it
