Reading in wikipedia that the aussie heads had a "unique intake manifold". Is that so, and does it matter if you put aussie heads on your engine? Is there after market intakes that cover this?

all the aussie heads are is a 2v head with a small closed chamber, no special intake required. any intake that fits a 2v 351c, will fit the aussie heads on a 351c.

Just don't use an intake for 4V heads, SERIOUS port mismatch.
There are aftermarket 4v intakes for 2V heads.

did the heads and intake boost the bottom end power as much as I suspect?

Where did you read that on Wikipedia? I read the 335 series page and it didn't say that.

"Until production of the 351 Cleveland began in Australia for 1972, the 351C was imported from the US. Both the 351-2V and 351-4V were imported and were in all respects the same as the American counterparts. In November 1971, when Ford of Australia began producing its own engines, it only produced one style of cylinder head for the 351 engine. This was the 2V head with the smaller ports and open chamber cylinder heads. In March 1972, Ford of Australia began offered a new 351-4V engine with a 4-barrel carburetor. However, these engines used the same 2V cylinder heads as the 351-2V, with a unique intake manifold.[1] No 351C built in Australia used the large port cylinder heads or closed chamber combustion chambers like the US build 351C-4V engines.'

I probably read this wrong, but to me the whole paragraph is confusing.

the AUS intake is unique in that it has US 2V sized runners and a 4bbl carb pad,
Ford US never produced a 351C 4bbl intake manifold for 2V heads

many times after some editing which happens on wiki the text can become confused and need a complete re-work to set the ideas back in order. or a confusing individual did the editing or original text to begin with

That paragraph  is referring to the Aussie made 351-4V.  It used the 2V heads (open chamber, small port) on their 4bbl engines.  So it required an unique intake, specifically a 4bbl intake but with the small 2V ports.  This would be like the aftermarket Edlebrock 2750 intake, made for a 4bbl carb but has the small ports.

The Aussie heads most people refer to are the 302C heads, not he 351C heads.  The advantage to the 302C heads is that they have the closed chamber combustion chambers, very small combustion chamber volume (56.4 - 59.4cc), while using small port sizes.  These were popular on 400's at one time to boost compression. I think there are better head options out there from the aftermarket now.

If you put 302C heads on a 351C, you'd need to run a Eddy 2750 intake to make it work.  A stock American 4V intake would have ports that are too big.
