I'm probably going to have the transmission fluid changed on my 1973 Gran Torino soon, I already have a new filter and gasket and I'm going to get Motorcraft type F fluid. My Gran Torino has a 302 and C4 transmission, is there a drain plug on the 1973 C4 torque converter? I haven't seen it in my original shop manuals, and I know that if you drain the transmission and converter then you can put the full amount of fluid in.

Yes there should be a drain plug in the converter. You will have remove the cover at the front bottom of the transmission where it is connected to the engine. The arrow in the picture below points to the cover.

Then you might have to rotate the center harmonic balancer bolt/crankshaft bolt clockwise to turn the engine to find the torque converter plug, where you removed the torque converter cover.

Then you will have to put a drain pan under the plug and remove the plug. The arrow in the picture below points to the plug that was removed.

How many bolts hold the converter cover on?
