I have been documenting my 72 Gran Torino in preparation for some restoration. It seems to be missing the Dash Pot. It is a California 302 2V. I am trying to use the ford parts book to id the correct dashpot . The book is a little confusing. I could be reading it totally wrong.

 These are the dashpots I found in the parts book : Sec 90.24, pg 3, "C8Az-9B549-A", and Sec 95, pg 21 Illust 9084," 9S514".

The photos on the net of C8AZ-9B549-A look like what I was expecting. 9S514 is totally different.

What should have been on the car? Will the C8AZ-9B549 work?

What's a dashpot? Not meaning to be funny, just not sure what you're looking for.

what i've always been told a dashpot was... the solenoid type thing that kicks the idle up a bit mounted to the corner of the carb

Oh, the anti-stall kicker...
Never heard it called a dashpot, is the one you need electric or vacuum?

That works with the AC also I think . Bumps up the idle so it don't stall j

The Ford Parts Book call it the "Dashpot Assy. (carb)" group 9B549. So that is what I called it. Just trying to be correct.

The car has AC. My problem is the Ford parts books seems to identify two different dash pots.

One maybe vacuum operated. The Ford description is somewhat vague so I am not sure. The other part identified has the standard spring, based on the illustration.

The standard spring version seems to be available. I haven't been able to find a vacuum operated dash pot for the car.

Going with the standard spring version maybe the way to go. For those of you with a California car let me know what you have on yours. Note the 351, per the book, is different then the 302.

This is just another one of those Ford mysteries.
