Hey guys,
Simple question... What the heck is this? My engine caught fire over a year ago, and since then (after I had some work done), this has always been just kind of chillin'. I don't know what it's to. All my gauges work (well, my temp gauge hasn't worked since the fire, but grounding the charred connector spikes the gauge, so I think the sensor got fried), so I have no idea. Neither does my mechanic know at a quick glance. Please ignore the rust. This thing has cowl rot up the ass, and the chemicals from the fire extinguisher mixed with rain getting though the hood scoop really messed up a lot. Any ideas? If it helps, I have a 302 and an after market two barrel carb, and it's a 1971 Torino 500. I'm a novice and I learn as I got, so please cut me some slack if it's something easily identifiable. :)

Looks like the connection for the hood light. Or possibly the a/c comp. Do you have air?

I didn't think about the hood light. As for the A/C, this car had factory A/C, but some previous owner thought it would be a good idea to half ass with a hacksaw. In short: no, I do not, but some parts remain. |

I thought the same thing then I took a look at mine. My a/c wire runs along in the harness next to the valve cover. That connector shown is exactly like the one on my wire going to the hood light

The wire that engages my A/C compressor clutch has that same connector, driver's side and is not in a loom. Has a little "sausage" in the wire as well. My hood light wiring is closer to the passenger side.

Connect it to the hood light and put the a/c on. See if it lights up

I agree with Big Bird. Almost positive it's the AC wire. Mine is identical and comes off that same part of the harness.

test it with a test light... if it has power all the time it would be for the light? (my trunk light has a built-in mercury switch in the light socket...so it comes on when tilted) assuming the hood light is the same?
if it's for the a/c it won't have power until the a/c is turned on |

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll pop a light in it some day and see. Sorry for getting back so late to all this. I didn't get notified by email like I normally do.
