Thanks C.J. I will pull the glove box and try and massage it out. I have a melted plug on my heater switch so I figured I'd start here

It physically looks good. What would be the proper way to test it. I have a melted plug at the heater switch. I figured it was this or the blower motor. I don't mind changing both but I can't seem to find the exact resistor. Thanks for any help

I can check a factory service manual to see if there is anything there on how to check the resistor. But I probably won't be able to get back to you until tomorrow.

Don't knock yourself out. I'm trying to find a replacement anyway. I see a few on eBay that look similar but not exact. I might take a shot with the best looking candidate

ohm meter?
plug it back in & check volts in each range? FWIW if the plug melted the resistor is probably still working (getting hot) melt down might be caused by a poor connection in the plug if worse comes to worse pretty much any resistor block you can find with the pigtail can be spliced in ... think Mustang, F series Edited by Rockatansky - 27-November-2017 at 2:19PM |

Agree with Rock, put a meter on it and measure resistance. Probably a bad connection, nothing discolored and no evidence of a melt-down.

Thanks. I see your point. I found a n.o.s. one I'll throw it in anyway and move on to the melted plug

Rick, is your car is an A/C car?
If so you can check the draw at the blower motor by running an ammeter in series. According to the OEM specs, an A/C car should have the following draw at the motor (at 12.2 volts) low: 5amps med-low: 11 amps med-high: 17 amps high: 23 amps You can also check the blower switch for shorts to ground by turning it off, and using a test light to probe between terminals for each setting. If it lights up, you have a short. Start with this and see what you find. Good luck.
