I'm curious how much you guys think a 1973 Gran Torino Sport Fastback is worth? It has a strong running, matching numbers, 351 Cleveland, FMX transmission with less than 1,000 miles on rebuild, new front end, new shocks, dual exhaust, interior all redone, original radio (not working), however there is an aftermarket Bluetooth radio installed. All lights and gauges work with the exception of the clock. Cold air conditioning. AC Compressor was upgraded to a Sanden 508. Power steering, power disc brakes. Have build sheet and most receipts. Runs and drives beautifully.

I'm sure you'll get many different opinions on this. For me, I'd say 10k-12k is not unreasonable.

Love the color. I also see a front bumper tuck. Looks like a clean non-original resto. Sorry, no idea on value. Good luck!

Is there a big difference in value of a 72 vs. a 73? Here are a few more pics too.

How does the value of a 73 compare to that of a 72?

I would crawl all over top to bottom and inside and out on that car, just has "that flipper look" to me. Bumpers will cost you a good 400-600+ each to get rechromed, so why did this guy go the black treatment after he put so much money into other things on the car? Also has a 72 trunk flipper on it and a 68/69 351 emblem under the FORD emblem that shouldn't be there either. Probably owner added but have to wonder why? same goes for that stripe, hopefully its taped on and not painted, it would be gone within a couple hours of ownership if i got it. The wheels I think are factory mustang wheels off a mid to late 2000's mustang and just don't look right on the car to me. Could be such a nice car just has some major detracts IMO. There was a similar blue cj/4 spd 73 not too long ago sold for around $23k. With the things I mention corrected, I don't see why this one couldn't be a 15-18k car. So add up the costs to correct these things on this car and that should give you an idea of its value as it sits now. Fresh shiny paint jobs always scare me right off the bat, i'd check all the rust prone areas with a fine tooth comb. The front bumper tuck looks a hair too tucked to me, I think if you can see the back of the bumper edge to even with or just slight past teh grille, it would look much better IMO. Alot of what I nit pick on is still up to individual tastes but a more stock look seems to fetch more money over modded.

73's bring a bit less due to lack of scoop and havin the 5 mph bumpers but there are oddballs like me who prefer the 73's over the 72's. |

I think Mr. Smog brings up a lot of good points. I'd be concerned about rust under that shiney paint too and how well the engine transmission were built. I'd check it over carefully. I'd say the 12-15K isn't out of line for a car like this, but it really depends on the condition. Pictures hid a lot.

I agree with Mr. Smog, I still think it is 15k give or take a couple. I do not like the paint job or the bumpers or the rims. If it was going to buy it, I would fix those three things. Proper rims and tires, maybe paint it in white, goes good with the blue int. Rechrome the bumpers.

I agree also. Then if you want buckets and a console which i would want oh and new magnum 500 wheels are a must then 15k would be out more like 11500. Unless you love the way it looks as seen in the pics

Again, this is just my opinion...
Value, is what someone is willing to pay for something. Value does not have to be the same for everyone. What lights one person's fire, may not do anything for someone else. For ME... I believe that originality gives greater value. A car is only original once. The more original and unmolested, the more it is worth. Even a restored car, done correctly, is worth more to ME, than a hot rodded version or restomodded version. If a car is going to be modded, "I" want to be the one doing the mods. This way the car is mine, and done exactly how I want it, that makes me happy. As for 72 vs 73.... I do believe 72s have higher value. First year Gran Torino. Only version of Sport with the scooped hood. Last year before hp started dropping. Clint Eastwood movie connection. It all factors in. Also, if there's too much "new" stuff on a car being sold, that scares me. Fresh motors, fresh transmissions, and fresh paint..... the problem with that is you have no idea just how quality everything was done. Will that motor blow up in 5000 miles? Will the paint start peeling off a year from now? Your 15k car could be an 8k car in a year. So it really comes down to what YOU want. Is that the Torino you want? Or is it just good enough to consider? Do you like everything about it? Or do you look at it and see things you want to change? Does looking at that car cause movement in your pants? Or are you looking at other cars? |

I tend to agree for the most part but I have mixed feelings on the value. Yes, this is a Sports roof model, but it's a bench seat, assuming plain jane 351W or 351C 2 barrel car. Bench seat, automatic. I'd like to see pictures before the paint. I'd also frankly deduct on the painted flat black bumpers and the flat black stripes on the sides.
Once again, not my car, not my money. I see nothing wrong with a rebuilt engine/transmission/etc as long as there is the detail and receipts to back it up. As it sits, I see no reason that the car isn't at least $8k-$10K. As long as it's not full of filler 3" thick in places and it's fairly clean underneath and it rides and drives decent. My personal preferences however... Make sure it's got the right suspension under her. Shocks, springs, sway bars. Ditch the wheels, and put something else on there. Pull the bumpers and rechrome. Find a set of late model mustang leather seats and get new covers to match the interior color and ditch that bench seat. Ditch the FMX, swap in a 4R70W 4 speed auto overdrive with trans controller and deeper rear end gearing for some fun. See how easy it is to spend other people's money? :D
