    Posted: 11-February-2018 at 1:34AM
Anyone have an untouched 74-76 Torino who could look at the inside of the gas and tell me if the bracket that attaches the door to the body is painted or plated?

THANKS

Joe, this is the gas filler area on my untouched '76. Paint is 2M.

I removed the Torino emblem when I was still driving it years ago to clean the polish out from around it. The acorn nuts were painted the same 2M as the car, but the paint on them has just about worn off to reveal the bare metal. I was not very careful with removal of parts back then, as this was a "temporary" car until I could get a Mustang.

Full view. It is amazing how much abuse the inner edge paint of the lid took from gas nozzles resting on it at every fuel stop. Almost all gone.

At least you HAVE a fuel door! While the gas cap on the 75 ranchero is not particularly ugly, per se, its located so far down on the rear quarter panel, as you may know, that without nearly biannually replacement of cork washers you have to make yourself dont bother painting it because gas will leak out if you drive like i do. It upsets me to the point of madness that the 75 didnt come with a fuel door higher up like the torino wagon that the chero is based on. If only i could find such a wagon as a donor that i could cut said part from for a relocation. ... props to Aquartlow for all the tips and advice for making my car the coolest, most eye catching car around. Its been on instagram 4 times and its almost everytime i take it out people take pics of it, you are my idol.

I was paint happy back then, so I could have spray painted the nuts for all I know. I did paint every single nut and bolt under the hood silver, washed and detailed the underneath of the car 1X a month and washed it daily when I was driving it. I loved that car and was so proud of it. Now it looks like...
