Hello,

My name is Dale and I am new to the Gran Torino Sport group.

I am currently building a 1972 GTS Vintage Late Model dirt track car. My Late Cousin raced a 1973 Gran Torino back in the 1974 Season in the Upper Midwest. back in 2015 I happened to locate a 1972 Gran Torino asphalt car in southeast Wisconsin and decided to build a Tribute car.

I have spent the last few years purchasing and prepping all the parts required to rebuild the existing race car. Just want to make sure everyone is aware that I am trying to use parts that are not appropriate for a total restoration project.

I have been writing a Blog about the build, the web address link is below.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Older Posts" it will eventually take you back to the beginning of the blog.

Currently I am starting to rebuild a vintage Frankland quick change rear end to use the factory control arm mounts. I am also looking to build a 460 (500 c.i.) 500 h.p. stroker engine ( I have purchased a Hardin Marine 460 H320 as a core. Much more work to do, but I have made great progress on the part search so far.

Hope to post more and I'm sure I'll need help along the way.

Below is the Tribute car in it's current configuration....soon the be built to look like the one pictured above.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Dale!  Very cool project, and I really like the idea of a tribute to your late cousins car.  Did you draw that sketch of the car?  It looks great, nice work.  I checked out your blog and it looks to be an awesome project.

Keep us posted , and feel free to start a project thread too.

That's the right era for Schiltz.  That's what I was stealing out of the fridge from my father back then
