Here's a blurb about the car in the Gran Torino movie including who restored it and where it went after the movie.

For your question Ford72GTS, the car was purchased from some Movie Company, but SUPPOSEDLY after the movie was finished Eastwood bought the car for himself.

Book office to date of Gran Torino, 141 Million and counting.
Book office of Milk which Sean Penn won best actor Oscar and which Clint wasn't even nominated,  31 Million.
I'll say no more on that subject.

I can't tell, but if that image is reverses, might account for the crest being on the other side.
I am not able to make out in that poster- it the steering wheel visable?

Latest take on Gran Torino movie is 139 million and counting.  The movie still playing here locally, but hope to score their poster when it's finished it's run.  Here's a link: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=grantorino.htm

Yeah, I wondered about the medallion placement on the front grille too.  Maybe something to do with how they wanted to shoot the scenes; something like, "Hey, we can't see the medallion in this shot, so how 'bout moving it to the other side of the grille; nobody will notice...."

Nice poster and free.

Box office mojo (here's a link) shows $121 million and counting.  Clint's best picture ever in $.  Still can't believe he didn't even get an academy nod for his performance.  Confused

It's in the same spot in the movie.

My small town local cinema showed the movie this past week. I somewhat know the owner and I asked him about the poster.

SCORE!!

The movie was excellent, and Clint did an excellent job acting. Too bad he got snubbed by the Oscar crowd, but we all know he did an terrific job.

I was very excited when I heard about his movie because as mentioned before it'd give the '72 Torino some seperation from the S&H cars. My 72 GTS is a red fastback, and as soon as I tell anyone about the car, they usually say S&H (especially because of the colour). Now I can say, that it's like Clint's car.

I thought the car in the movie was a pretty nice example, but did anyone notice that the grille emblem is placed in the wrong spot? This just was such an obvious flaw to me. I also noted that car had no chrome trim around the fenders which most sport models seem to have (I believe they were std equipment on the GTS).

As for the engine, I remember when the read off the specs they only said "Cobra-Jet engine", but didn't specify displacement. I guess this would have to be the Q-code 351, but we never see an underhood shot.

Does anyone know who owns the Torino in the movie? I am curious who picked that '72 GTS for the movie and why it was chosen?   Regardless, I am happy to see the '72 GTS on the big screen.

Wink I'm not surprised.
Why would they want to nominate a film that has a car the supposedly brought down Detroit? LOL

Ouch Well as I suspected, the Academy of Motion Pictures voters did not nominate Clint Eastwood for best actor for Gran Torino.  I'm disappointed, but not surprised.  If you'd like to see the list of the nominees, here's a link without comment, Paul:  http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/22/oscar.nominations/

I went to see Gran Torino this weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see a packed house on a Saturday afternoon no less.  Clint Eastwood has always been one of my favorite actors and I thought his performance was Oscar-worthy; although, I have my doubts the Oscar voters will even nominate him.  I especially appreciated the closing credits' song, "Gran Torino" sung by Clint himself in character.  Finally, the 1972 GTS was as nice as I expected.  It was great to see our cars getting some positive attention/press.  For those of you who had asked in previous posts, here's a link for a 27 x 41 inch movie poster through epic theaters website.  See the link at the bottom right corner that says, buy posters.    http://www.epictheatres.com/

Does any one remember the guys describing the car in the driveway? Did they say 429 Cobra Jet or 351 Cobra Jet?

Was this model actually built in Dearborn? I thought they were build up in Oakville?

I am here in Iraq and I just watched it on DVD!

Only paid $3 for it too!

Anyone who has been here can tell you...
you can get any movie you want before it is no longer in the theaters!

I liked the movie!
The car was a co-star and just went to show Wally's old school ways and appreciation for keeping things taken care of! It did play a huge underlying role in this movie!

The car was/is BEAUTIFUL!!! and to see the laser stripe at night with the lights hitting it... WOW!

The official movie poster is now available on the Epic Theatres website.  Here's the link:   http://www.epictheatres.com/ At the bottom of the site there is a link that says buy movie posters.  The poster is 27 x 41 inches and is selling for $24.99.  I've bought posters from this site before and was very pleased each time.  I'd suggest passing on the framing options though because you can get frames for the movie posters cheaper through places like Michaels.

Just got back from the theatre in Windsor. Great movie. The packed house enjoyed it too. Clint is still the toughest guy around even at 82. He doesn't even have to do anything, just stare at you.
