Well there are several questions that need to be answered to get to to the engine.
1. What state do you live in? Emission will dictate what you can and can’t do.
2. What are you building that car for? Drag, pro-street, pro-touring, crusing, etc.
3. What is budget? Money will dictate how much power you can afford.
4. There are several engine options that are out there. Windsor, Cleveland, 385 bigblock, mod motors.

I agree, some form of 385. If you stay Ford and in keeping with the spirit of the car. Of course anything can be street legal if you stay within the lines of the law. If there was no restrictions I would put a Messerschmidt engine in it.
