Help! I just need to verify my wheel size so I can try to find a factory set. My car is in Arizona and I’m not!! I think it’s 14 X 6. I have a picture of my car when it was new and it has the Dog Dish hub caps. The car is a ‘71 Torino GT convertible with a 351. Spare is marked “0MH”. Can anybody let me know? Thanks!!

Thanks for the info. I had my son look at my spare. He said it looks like 14 x 6. I’m 99% sure that the spare is correct for the car as it matches the build date of the car. Does anybody out there know where I can find a set of four? Thanks

some level of Marti report should specify what size wheels your car came equipped with,

have you looked for a build sheet inside the car?

IIRC there's a box for the spare tire code and it may not be identical to the wheels & tires on the car

Well we’re getting close. My Marti report was no help. But, the original window sticker has this—
/5/ F70X14 WIDE OVAL BLTD WSW
So all the wheels are the same size. I also found a receipt from a previous owner who purchased tires that were
P205/70R/14. So, what size wheel would get a “P” or “F” size tire? I’m going to be back with the car tonight, so I’ll double check the spare. I measured it a few years ago and thought it was 14X7. This should be about right for a F70 tire. I’ll post my findings in a day or two. Thanks

P stands for passenger, the next number 205 in this case refers to the tire width in millimeters

i'd just take the spare to a tire shop and let them measure the rim, they have a caliper that measures from the outside takes 2 seconds

Your car should have had 14x6 wheels originally but the only way to confirm would be by the build sheet like Rockatansky said.

F70-14 is the old method of measuring tire sizes. Unless you buy reproduction bias ply tires you can't buy new tires in this size anymore. The closest modern equivalent tire is P215/75R14 tires.

Here is a chart for converting old tires sizes to the closest modern P-Metric sizes.

Well first I would like to thank everybody for their input. It’s been a great help. Here’s the latest. I removed the spare for my trunk and did a real measurement. The spare wheel is a 14 x 7 rim. The date code is 0MH. Again, this fits the build date (8-21-‘70) of the car. I have spoken to the two previous owners of the car and they both told me they did not change the spare. The first owner sold the car back in the late 80s. I have to believe this is an original spare. The original paperwork that came with the car shows that the car was sold with 5 F70 X 14 wide oval tires. Kelsey tire has a chart that shows that size tire would fit best on a 7 inch rim. So I have to believe that this would be correct. So now my goal is to find for usable 14 x 7 rims with a 4 inch backset that I can use. So my next question is, Where is a good place to find these? Does anybody have any extra wheels or know of a good place to find them? Thanks again!!

if you intend to use the original old school poverty caps you need to make sure you get steel wheels that accept them, it's become a special feature these days. the new method to hold the nut covers on is with clips that grab special lug nuts and there are no bumps around the center of the wheel for the dog dish to snap onto. then you need wheels with nubs for the correct diameter dog dish, there are several different diameters from Ford, AMC & Mopar over the years ... not to mention aftermarket.

Gotta love it!

i didn't think a GT ragtop would roll out on 6" wheels?

a member here has a 72 on nice GT wheels correct for your car that he was going to swap out ;)

I stand corrected.  I was going by memory and I though the 14x6 was the standard size.  However, I just checked the parts catalog and it is 14x7 is the only wheel for any 70 series tire.  This includes E70-14, F70-14, and G70 14.  The regular Torinos used 14 x5 wheels, with E78-14, F78-14 tires.  G78-14s could be on 14x5 or 14x7.  The Magnum 500's were 15x7's with G60-15's.

Finding the original wheels might be tough.  Search online classifieds and swap meets.  Post some want ads too.  Otherwise you could also check vendors like Wheel Vintiques who should make repros that are fairly close to the originals.

When I bought the car, it came with the aftermarket magnum 500 wheels. They’re 15 x 7. I prefere the original steel wheels with the hub caps. Also want the original size.... 14 x 7. So I need the original 14 x 7 with a 2” back set. Should have 4 “nubs” for the hub caps, not 3 like the repops. What do you have?
