So I got an intake manifold that I've been looking for and the only thing wrong with it. It has has a dime sized hole underneath the intake where the air injection crossover connects from one side to the other. I am not using air injection so my question is "would welding it closed be advisable since it's exposed to the lifter valley and oil?"
Second question is "should I block off those air injection ports in the head with some thin sheet metal or high temp jb weld? Tia |

what heads? are the passages open and functional through the heads even though you're not using the system? do you have the heads that have tapped holes in the front back that take the plugs to close them off?

It's probably a good idea to fix that hole in the intake. I don't think you have to block off the head passageways but if they are threaded it'd be a quick and easy fix.

the Thermactor / EGR / A.I.R. / whatever you want to call them / passages in the front intake face of the smog heads are irregular shape, like the coolant passages in Windsor heads IIRC a pic of the heads would help generate the best answer

BTW there are turkey pan gaskets for each, with & w/o the passage, would the blocked off turkey pan solve the problem? |

you may still need the gasket with the passage holes to seal the heads ;) Edited by Rockatansky - 02-October-2018 at 2:51PM |
