I keep burning up starters in my 73 Torino. The last one was a new one instead of a reman. Got it in started fine. Went out about a month later, nothing. Switched batteries, changed relay, still nothing. Any ideas what going on?

original ground cable?

change it even if it's new, get a good one with terminals that are poured / cast in place onto the cable, not crimped crap. you can sweat solder into a crimped terminal but it may already have corrosion in it from the boat ride over here. change the positive cable too if it's crimped Censored

or maybe you're just having bad luck ...

Are you talking ground from battery to engine? It has been replaced, but I think it is a soldered one.
Yes, I tried jumping across the relay. Nothing

You may want to get rid of the stock style of starter for that year and get a later model PMGR starter, I went this route for my Ranchero and will never go back to the original style of starter. Here's the difference, stock '76 460 on left, '92-'96 F250-F350 460 PMGR starter on right:

If the battery or it's connections are not "up to snuff" it can damage electrical system parts. May want to take the starter out and bench test it with your battery and a set of "good" jumper cables to rule out the starter and/or the battery. Also makes sure you have a 12V signal to the starter solenoid's "S" stud(fender mounted solenoid) when you turn the key to the start position.
If you install a new starter, whatever kind you want, pull the coil wire and crank the engine over a few times then feel the ground and power cables. The cable that feels warmer/hotter than the other is the one with the most resistance and it has either a bad connection, bad termination point or is just subpar for the starting system. Good luck.

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires.

No matter how good she looks, somebody, somewhere, is tired of her sh*t.

Would you have apart number for the starter on the right. It looks like it would be easier to install and more room away from the header.

Thanks for all the help, guys!

Definitely allows more clearance from my PS header, not sure what your application is (engine/trans)but this is what/where I ordered mine from.

I had a problem like that. After changing battery, starter and solenoid. I found all I needed to do was to ground the engine block.
