hello im a new member I live in belvidere il and I was talked into buying this 73 gran torino brougham by my brother and dad. its a barn car that is all original and triple black. it really cleaned up nice but has frame rot in front of rear wheels. it sat since 89. was wondering if I could maybe get some feedback from folks who might know a little more about it. appreciate any help thank you. matt73brougham[IMG][/IMG]

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new car.  Too bad about the rust.  You are upgraded to a full member now so you will be able to post pics.  If you can get some photos of the under carriage, post them on here.

I fixed your photos for you, it was nothing you did wrong.  For whatever reason the forum software doesn't seem to recognize the correct direction for cell phone photos sometimes.

Yeah, that frame is really bad.  Do you have any other undercarriage shots?  What kind of shape is the floor pans and trunk pan in?  How are the rockers, lower fenders, rear quarters for rust? It looks like it might be an original black paint car, which was a rare special order colour.  If the rest of the car and body aren't too bad, finding a new frame to save it might be a good option.

The '73 frame is a one off year.  It is very similar to the '72 frame but the front was changed for the new bumpers in 1973.  The 1974-79 frames are different on the rear for the rear 5 mph bumpers.  While the later frames would fit you'd have to modify the rear section.  And a '72 Frame would fit, but you'd have to modify the front.

welcome matty, very nice car.    that frame though.  i would find a good frame and swap.  its not as difficult as you would think.  and if you paid only $500, that was a pretty sweet deal
