from what i seen you can have a console with or with out floor shifter.if you do it with out a console it should be like the mustangs with out a console.thats my thoughts on it.

you let the carpet cover the hump.then the chrome bezel covers the shifter.all floor shifters have a cover...

Torino shifter will not look right, cover doesn't cover everything, Find a shifter from a Fox mustang or Fairmont.

look at the picture below, there is a large space/gap between the cover and shifter on a Torino

My brother had a 77 Cougar (non-XR-7) back in the early 80s that had buckets and floorshift without a console. Shifter just had the chrome bezel and trim ring. No console, and no sign of a console ever being there. As far as we could tell, it was original, as the people he got it from were the original owners and just shy of a million years old.
After my brother destroyed the car (maybe 3 months...) I pirated the shifter/hump and used it in an Olds Omega I converted from a 231/5 speed to a Rocket 350 4bbl/th350.

Yep, my old 73 Sport came with floor shift and no console, and like Randy, there was no sign there ever WAS one there. I was the third owner of it, and I had talked to both previous owners, one of which drove it off the lot in late 73. Kind of an odd thing to not have a console with a floor shift, but they were out there. Option, perhaps?
