    Posted: 26-December-2018 at 6:40PM
Hi Guys,

I'm looking at picking up a '72 coupe (not a Sportsroof).. The rear window is out and I spotted some rust in the window channel.  Not large, just several smaller spots, around the size of a dime. Is this sheetmetal available? I have a welder, so that's not a problem, just wondering if I'd have to fab something up myself.

Thanks,!

Welcome to the forum!  There are no reproduction window channels. You'd have to get something cut off a parts donor car or fabricate your own new window channel.

We'd love to hear about you and your Torino, so feel free to introduce yourself in the Welcome Mat area.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I think the only part that is actually needed is the channel itself, I believe the rest of the filler panel is ok. I'll have to try and take a better look. When I saw the car, it was kinda crammed back against a wall in the guys shop.

I'll ping him again and see if I could get a better look.

So, worst case, if I need to fab it up, I guess I'd have to get a brake and start bending some steel?

Or, show me a pic of the section you need... I may be ably to cut it out of mine as long as it isn't along the top.... i want to keep the roof intact when I cut that off....

Ok, so this is the only pic I have right now. It's not super clear, but you can see the trim has been removed and there are several small rust spots along the lower edge. They are right on the edge, that's why I'm thinking I have to weld in new sections.

ok looks like a formal roof hard top car (not a fastback and not vinyl) that whole section is called the trunk filler panel you could drill spotwelds and replace it like factory or cut and weld in the channel section

Ok, mine looks like the panel was replaced-- judging by the welds on the ends where they meet the quarters. The lip is real good, and the little bosses for the clips are a nice too...

Californiajohnny was on this first, so he's in line before me. If he has what you need, deal with him. If he doesn't, then we'll talk.

well actually i have that whole panel removed but it's pending for scott's carWink the other one i saved is good in the channel but the outer is rusty from a vinyl top, and a couple inches short on one side.
i'd go with dave's nice full panel and replace it like factory! a bit of work drilling spotwelds but worth the effort Wink

BTW, dave wtf is with that package tray???? looks like some custom rear seat dedete sub woofer panel? Shocked

Oh, the whole interior was removed, and someone created that new back, and some square-tube cross supports..... It's really weird. I'll take an inside pic to show you ( it's full of extra parts, though, so it will be 'cluttered', but you'll get the idea.)

I suspect it was for racing...... Purely a guess.

But the body is pretty decent so I'll use a lot of the sheet metal, too..... And save what I don't use

Oh, I'm sure you do :). For the winter, I'm storing all my parts inside the parts car. I have found a few cars to strip down, and a bunch of other parts that I have come across lately. Many will of course go onto my GTS, but if there is something you see or need---ask. I may have duplicates. For example, the '72 hood scoop...I have 3 now....

We can talk----

Ok, wow - thanks guys! This board is awesome!

I just got back from the holidays so I'm trying to arrange a time to check out the car better. I believe the best plan would be to replace the entire panel. Should be able to drill out the spotwelds and fit in the new piece.

Will update everyone again soon, I hope!
