Have a quick question I hope someone can give me some guidance on. I have a new tank to charcoal canister line for my 73 GTS, bottom of body freshly painted and sitting on frame, is there any way to install the line by the rear end section without lifting the body off the frame? I have done one short attempt at it but am not sure it can be done with the body on frame due to the small gap availiabe above the rear end section and I really don't want to scratch up the body if at all possible. thanks - dave

After playing around with it for a while I'm afraid I will have to unbolt the passenger side body mounts and jack it up a little to get it in. Another question I have is the engine has been rebuilt with new intake so the canister will not be hooked up to the engine. Will the venting process still function without problems if the line is just running from the tank to the canister and do I just plug up the other canister opening?

depends if the canister valve is normally open or closed, the other hose must be the vacuum signal from the engine to tell the valve what to do? |

probably won't vent if it's plugged
i removed the canister and tucked the hose from the line inside a hole in the frame near it |

a small fuel filter works nice to protect the opening and still let it breathe

The hose from the canister to the engine was gone and left open on the canister when I got the car, was planning on putting the line and canister back on but since it probably doesn't serve its' original purpose anymore I will probably go with the filter set-up. The only question I would have is the issue of fumes coming from the tank through the filter. It seems like I remember reading about this in another post.

Thanks, John and Rock, I will probably just do the filter then. I don't think it's worth the time and effort to lift the body just to hook up a non-functioning part of the system.

you don't need the charcoal canister! it was part of the california b.s. someone thought the tiny bit of fumes would be bad for the environment. charcoal filters the air around it 24/7 so it's usefullness was used up 39 years ago! remember this mentality comes from an era when they thought spray cans caused holes in the ozone and created smog which was caused way more from leaking freon from a/c units everywhere

Ozone hole. The earth's magnetic field pulls in at the magnetic poles and does not protect the ozone layer from solar wind/radiation at those locations.
Earth's atmosphere generally is stratified, and no explanation was ever given to how a gas that is heavier than air travels eight miles up, through two boundary layers and attacks the Ozone. Other issue was the big hole was over the South magnetic pole. Most Freon use/release was in the Northern hemisphere, no explanation as to how it travelled all the way down there to do the dastardly deed.. Normally, what happens in the Northern hemisphere, stays in the Northern hemisphere. Maybe AlGore (Con Artist/Hippocrite/ManBearPig/Swamp Thing) can make a scam scary movie about it, next.
