Hi forum...now that I have a nice original 4300D going into my 72 GTS 351CJ, will I need a spacer?
Was there a spacer in the original setup? Thanks...

Based on the length if the studs I am going to go with yes. My first car in 1980 had one that may have been bakelite or a similar material. You will get the correct answer in a few minutes.

Aluminum would be a good spacer as it would help keep the carb cooler which is never a bad thing.

I have the aluminum spacers under my carb. Three of them. Had a detonation issue and now I don't. Might have been the jet change that fixed it along with timing. If everything lines up without the spacer I would be surprised. The kickdown rod will tell you one way or the other. If it fits correctly without a spacer I would be surprised. We had to bend mine a bit to make it a little longer so it worked as designed.

I have googled many pictures of Torino/Mustang 4300D setups. Some have spacers...some dont.....what was factory?
I bought a Motorcraft 4300D spacer on the ‘Bay. It is about 5mm thick. All ideas welcome. Here is a picture of the spacer. |

thats the thick base gasket. your studs look short so that should be fine
idk if you can find the correct plastic 1/2" thick solid plastic phenolic spacer with correct longer studs would be good if you have hot "boiling over" issues later |

the aluminum spacer was normally for the EGR valve which you not have(worm hole trench) that's a good thing!

I have never heard of anyone reproducing the '72 spacers. There is a seller that is advertising that he has spacer for sale, but it is a '73 spacer. It has the egr port on it.

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires. No matter how good she looks, somebody, somewhere, is tired of her sh*t. Beauty is skin deep, ugliness goes clear to the bone. |

1972 had a Ram-Air option so Ford may've ditched the EGR & any spacers for hood clearance? Anderslober, are the large secondary throttle bores perfectly round or are they an odd egg shape? |

If you are wanting/needing a non-EGR 4300/4350 carburetor spacer, I found this gem in my stash, it came off of a '76 460 out of an E-350 van. Just reply or PM me. It is all aluminum and about 3/4" thick.
