i recently purchased a 71 Torino 500 in great shape but has some minor issues with wiring. Only had brake lights working. I replaced the sockets and bulbs and the flasher unit. Now when I plug in the flasher it immediately starts to flash only one of the tail lights. Doesn’t matter if key is on or off; if the hazard light switch is on or off or if the directional level is up down or off. Can’t get the flasher to stop. I first bought a mid priced flasher then I bought the heavy duty 20amp flask. Doesn’t matter
Any ideas?

recheck your wiring in the sockets on that side... does the other side work correctly??? also check if the bulbs are correct in the side that's flashing... ( i had a "flip" pick up that did similar issues... was the wrong bulb causing it to jump the circuits)

unplug the turn signal switch... do some continuity testing, could be a faulty switch!
when connection is made by moving the turn lever it completes the circuit and as power is drawn through the flasher it heats up causing it to break contact internally for a second then cools and the process starts all over again |

Also check brake light switch. as far as I remember, that's the only other power source available with the key off, headlight switch off. Power has to come from somewhere, brake switch circuit or hazard circuit.
