Originally I started this thread in the newbie forum and then over on the big block forum but since I've moved on with doing other things to this car, that I hadn't planned to tackle this year, now I'm in the search for parts. I figured this would be a better place to ask about specific 1973 Torino parts. I finished this swap a couple months back, using various parts I had laying around and honestly, things went a lot smoother that I had anticipated.
I didn't plan I really messing with the A/C on this car until 2021 but I had a good Tecumseh compressor off my 460 F100 truck, that was converted to a serpentine system. I went ahead and gathered the rest of the A/C parts I needed for the factory system, installed them, converted over to 134a, pulled a vacuum and BAM!, cold air. My only problem is, when I got this car, some idiot removed the A/C ducting from the driver side and must have left something underneath the dash disconnected. My cold air does not come through the driver or pass vents but on the floor. Could anyone point me in the direction, where I might find the ducting for the driver side, that also includes the vent that faces the windshield for the driver side defrost? Posted a couple of updated under hood pics here, that are also over on the big block forum. A/C is connected now and I did swap carburetors.

Excellent, great work. That big engine fits well and the new AC parts I'm sure you will appreciate. I have to find all of the AC parts for my latest 73, a Nevada truck ordered that way, hmm?

I’m doing the same with my 76, but still looking for the engine mounts 🤦♂️ You have a line on any? Looks like no room for headers as well? Curtis

Ouch, seeing all the engine mount threads, I didn't know that nobody made any now. I hadn't thought at all about those, to me those have always been standard items any parts store could order.

Stock type mounts should be fine for decent power, what brands are there? 20+ years ago there were not as many parts makers, and almost all then were good parts. In the last 10-15 years a bunch of brands have popped up, there are tons of low quality parts now. Some brands like Detroit Axle I would never buy parts from, but there are many many odd unknown brands now. You do have to be much more careful these days.

Why is that? Have you had bad experience or know someone who has? I have several items used from them...do I have ticking time bombs?

I have read of some Explorer suspension parts and hub bearings, which failed early on, say in months after new, which is bad. I have a kit of theirs I bought before hearing of the issues, for a CV joint in the front driveshaft of my truck. Dorman had the only kit before then, at about $85, the Detroit Axle kit came out, for around $60 or so, and I got it for my spare truck. I haven't installed it yet, but oddly, a search for the same CV rebuild kit, turned up two other brands, even cheaper($30ish and $45). They are a new brand, and so far in a couple three years have made a lot of low cost parts. It's likely a lot of what they have been making is low quality. Car work is a lot about learning which parts are critical to buy the best of, and which you can save money by using most brands. For something like an engine mount, those are less likely to have cheap quality choices, most brands should be fine for those.

After replacing 4 sets of hubs on my buddies Excursion (Timken $185 each with shipping) and them lasting 2-6 months past their warranty (2 years); I figured I'd replace mine with Detroit Axle Hubs for $158 for both shipped. They carry a 10 year warranty vs 2 year from Timken.
That was two years ago; but now you're making me wonder if I may have effed up.

No company is perfect, but I like to hope most are trying to do well, or improve. So hopefully you will be okay with those parts. I was paying $200 for Ford hubs in 2003 for my first Explorer. I didn't trust others so I went with the OEM, but after about five years I learned of a few other good brands, the Timken was one for sure. I know Timken has had big changes in the last ten years, most is made in China etc. Things change, even Ford now has outsourced a lot of OEM parts, being made in China. I have one of those examples, a Motorcraft water pump made in China for my Explorer, plus another that I bought much earlier, same part, but made in USA. BTW, for hubs, see if one is made by SKF, because I found that brand to make a slightly improved hub for my Explorers. Mine runs about $145 from SKF, Ford is still closer to $200, and Timken, Moog etc, are around $125 or so. Price isn't the bench mark, so you have to hunt for examples or reviews from others. Also I just remembered, I bought new Raybestos hubs for my 95 Crown Vic, and they failed at about five weeks, and nine weeks. I got Amazon to replace them, but I guess the $25 price was a hint that they were being cleared out. The replacements I have put about 15k miles on now, same parts but somehow better.
