How compatible are the components around the engine compartment, transmission, steering, with 1974 Gran Torinos? And I don't expect it to be, but is any part of the brake system compatible? I'm defining compatibility as wrench and drop in. I'm looking all over for suitable parts cars to bring my GT Sport back to life, and there seems to be a lack of Cougars/Montegos/Rancheros or just plain Torinos in my area.

For the steering, find any steering box that has four bolts on the top cover, they improve the steering and some have quicker ratios. There's a long list of cars that had it, the 71-73 Mustangs did, the later 70's Trans Am's etc. Brakes and suspension upgrades would be worth doing. You might already have the bigger rotor option in the 1974. Replace bushings with urethane, check with Energy Suspension(ES), especially the anti-sway bars front and rear. You can buy excellent rear control arms, aftermarket, for a good $100 each(I forgot, think it was $450ish for all).

There wouldn't be a huge amount that interchanges between the full-size and the mid-size cars. The front suspension has some similarities, from 1973 on some brake parts are interchangeable. Engines and engine brackets, and transmissions are be interchangeable. The rear axles are different and don't swap, but the chunk for the 9" is interchange. Not much from the interior or body other than may the odd small part here and there.

the LTD should have the caliper brackets for the 11.7x rotors, but IIRC the LTD rotors are not the right ones for our 'Intermediates'
