The current issue of Car Craft has a great article on driveshafts and U-Joints.

Made me think of how important and underlooked they really are.

I had a transmission and rear axle failure about 20 years ago directly related to a bent driveshaft.

Has anyone approached the subject of improving the driveshaft and U-joints?

Or has anyone just taken the stock driveshaft and had it balanced better and examined?

my driveshaft in my Cougar is from Denny's Driveshaft. I called them, gave my measurements, and it was shipped a few weeks later.

i still have the original driveshaft in my car, and one of the uj's is still the original oem unit. i know i am on borrowed time. i have made/ shortened driveshafts for buddies rat projects,  but for a high rpm , high torque  engine, you should have a custom one made.

I have custom driveshaft, Strange yokes and 1350 joints, all balanced.  I could have had the original shaft shortened (FMX to C6 swap), but I wanted to have stronger shaft and yokes so I won´t have to worry about them to break up.

I ran a shortened rebuilt shaft on the car for years and went to a 3.5"/1350 setup with the 545 just because I have seen too what a D/S failure can do to the car (lots of pics of torn up floors, cars hopped and spun and worse..  Regardless of your driveshaft, I'd still run a loop, even the best stuff can break in the right circumstances..

There are some good deals on Billet yokes and such on Ebay

That´s true Jim,  even the best stuff can break.  With all the money poured into the project,  I won´t take a chance to risk it all. I will make a loop for the shaft. Thanks.
